Gibbs should be given one more chance to sort his injuries out or get rid. Diaby too.
I think you have an obsession with getting rid of players goonz. What's wrong with having a squad of good players that you rotate when injuries happen? It's what everyone else does...
Gibbs and Diaby have a lot of potential still. I don't hear a clamour for getting rid of Ramsey now he's fit again, but people were saying get rid if he doesn't fully recover from a broken leg straight away once he's back. Likewise people have been calling for Van Persie's head on a stick for years. Not so vocal now are they? Give our players a chance for crying out loud.
This is the absolute the fault of the medical staff. Why wasn't this discovered before so he could have the operation while he was out for other injuries?
Gibbs is young enough to grow out of all this. And a lot of injuries occur because the players are still growing. This is the danger of over playing youngsters. So some kind of ultimatum is ridiculous in Gibbs case. That is different for Diaby.
We are very lucky to have a quality youngster like Gibbs. Santos is very average defensively.
I can't believe either of you are Arsenal fans, there's nothing wrong with Diaby or Santos just because they're not world-beaters already. Diaby has been very unlucky with injuries, but when he has had a run of games he has started to look like a real prospect. Santos is clearly not fully-fit but has scored two goals and whilst he is sometimes defensively a liability he has been getting better.
There is no need to get rid of players just because they're not currently automatic first team players. Look at Man City. Apart from Aguero (and maybe Clichy)that team is the same team that barely finished fourth last year. Consistency, and faith in the players are what have made them so good this season, not constantly chopping and changing because Balotelli isn't perfect or Dzeko wasn't scoring...
They've got Barry and Milner in that line-up (I rate Milner but some don't) and they're not players that would necessarily play in our first team, yet they play every game for City and it does them no harm. You can't have a team of the best players, because invariably they're not a team. Arsenal are always going to be a mix of promising youth and reliable experience, and demanding we ditch our youngsters because they're inconsistent is just plain dumb. Not one young player is ever great one game to the next. It takes time and patience to become the finished article, and I think Diaby and Gibbs have shown more than enough promise to warrant some more of both.
Just because I don't want injury ravaged players leaching off my club, I am no longer a fan?
RVP justifies his place in the squad. Diaby frankly does not. He has 2 or 3 good games then gets injured again. What's the point in that?
I never said Santos is no good. Or that Gibbs is not that good either, Nothing wrong in getting rid and buying someone less injury prone to provide stability and depth to the squad.
I think you mean leeching rather than leaching. But I distinctly remember you calling for Van Persie to leave. Now he's the top scorer in the country you say he justifies his place in the squad. But because Diaby hasn't had the run of games of late you want him gone? Can't you see that Van Persie always showed promise, but you wanted him out because of injuries, and now you are doing the same with Diaby.
When fit Diaby looks a very good player. So lets give him a chance to get fit. If he goes the whole of this season without playing, then yes I could countenance cutting my losses on him, but we won't get any money for an injured player so we need to be sure he's not going to develop into a good player before shipping him out.
Good managers are patient. We're not in a position to go out and get the most promising prospects in the world, so we need to be a bit cleverer about it, and the one way of ensuring that when we get good players we keep them is to stick by them when they go through a tough patch.
You demand loyalty from our players, but why should they show us any if we don't show them any. Have you forgotten what happened with Flamini already? Club shows no loyalty, Flamini stamps his name on teamsheet, club changes mind, Flamini says hold on, you didn't belive in me more, now you want me to turn down a lucrative offer in Italy for you despite showing me no loyatly - no thanks. And we lose a very good player for very little.
"I can't believe either of you are Arsenal fans, there's nothing wrong with Diaby or Santos just because they're not world-beaters already"
Just because someone criticises weakness in their teams does not make them less as fans. In facts it makes them more genuine supporters. I support Arsenal football club. I do not support x, y, z players who will be gone as soon as Barca come calling. Thats the whole point of 'supporting' the club. Which very few fans from outside this country understand.
Diaby has always had the potential to be a great player. He has been injured so many times that he has never had the consistency to prove himself. He is not young any more and thats why even Arsene is fed up and looking for alternatives.
Gibbs has better positioning sense then Ashley Cole does. He is probably the best talent we have ever produced at left back. Gibbs however is lacking when he gets forward. But he is working on that and improving. But you cannot improve if you are not playing.
Santos is terrific going forward but has awful positional sense. He is a liability defensively. But is more than good enough for a backup. He is not first choice. But because Gibbs is out for a longer period means Santos is playing more than he should be. Luckily our schedule will be getting easier in Dec. Which means we get Wilshere, Gibbs, Diaby, back during the tough stretch of games next year.
