steve bruce has been sacked, but wont be announced till later today because of the news.

Got a reliable source, Rev? All I can find about Bruce and Coyle is speculation on Twitter.

I truly believe neither are true. Steve Bruce seems to have been mentioned, but a PL manager has been sacked tonight, speculation as to who it is will continue till tomorrow.

In regards to Speed, I just think he will have started to get depressed after retiring. Being so involved and training for football from age of say 10 till he was 40, and suddenly that stopped, he may have found it difficult to adapt and especially being a national manager where he was only working one weekend a month it may have sent him down the horrific path of depression. Didn't realise the true extent of depression until I read Stan Collymore tweet from before and to say it shocked me is an understatement. RIP SPEEDO

Why is everyone assuming depression?!

That is not yet known for certain.

And there was talk of a high profile footballer being outed before this.

Re read your comment and what you've just said and think about it, what state of mind do you need to be in for you to be in such a horrific position that you see no other way other than to tragically take your own life.

As a sidenote, when did a persons sexuality become news?!

It's a sad state of society if that actually counts as being something that needs to be reported. Does a person sexuality count that much, shouldn't matter if your staright or not. Shouldn't be for the media to tell people such an intimate detail, if they wanted something like their sexuality to be public news we would know wouldn't we.

HH, I think what Mr is driving at is that suicide isn't something that is only performed by people suffering from depression. There are other mental health issues which can drive someone to suicide, and sometimes there are no mental health issues at all. Sometimes people do it because they feel a profound sense of shame or hopelessness about their situation.

For all we know there may have been money worries....

Just considering the possibilities.

What did Stan Collymore tweet?

posted on 28/11/11

He gave a detailed outline of his experience with depression and what he has to endure and is cyually enduring this week. Never knew full extend of depression and it shocked me. Says suicide becomes practical option for people as they cannot see past their depressie state where they are sleeping for 18 hours because they have no energy, cannot move cannot think etc, great informative read.

Possibly could have been money worries, or marriage problems, but I have a feeling the transition from 30 years of a football lifestyle to that stopping staright away and he was not having a daily interaction with football, led to a depression which ultimately got too much for him. Doesn't matter how depression starts, once it's there.. Help is needed. I can appreciate situations such as helplessness or shame, but what I've said seems most probably and feasible. No matter what has happened, it doesn't stop the fact that a true footballing great and a great man has been lost and its horrific. Legend, RIP

Disgraceful article, all it does is spread a nasty rumour Hang your head in shame.

It's clear with the recent hearings on tabloid intrusion that it affects people from every walk of life. It's sad if that's the case.

I'm not sure why raising this on an article disgusts the above poster.. Will they be searching the entire Internet to vent their disgust..?

It's a sad time and things like this allow debate and discussion. Our thoughts of Gary Speed at the moment are one of shock and upset..

Let's not turn that into anger amongst ourselves. We've all lost a special man who did wonders in his sport and no doubt private life..

---------

The rumour is that the press were about to publish something about Gary's sexuality. In the 21st century, there'd be nothing nasty about having a different sexuality.

What would be nasty would be if the press thing is true, and it drove him to do what he did. If this is true, it should not be suppressed.

So no, I won't hang my head in shame.

Madnotlobian, you can add the Daily Telegraph to the list of people who should hang their heads in shame, as they mention the rumour too:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/wales/8919251/Gary-Speed-died-hours-after-joking-with-colleagues-on-Football-Focus.html

And you can add Reebok Rebel, who has also mentioned it in an article.

If Coyle was to go tomorrow, I'd care less because of this? Does this make me a crap fan? I'm being serious.

And as for the rumour undertones:

Anyone (and I hold my own hand up) who has ever used homophobic language should feel guilty here, if it is true or not. If it does transpire to be true then perhaps football will take a good hard look at itself, and perhaps society as a whole should.

.........

why...what have i done? i only mentioned it as it COULD be an element in the equation as to why it happened! i also go on to say i think its disgusting whats getting said and that even if Gary WAS that way inclined its HIS business - nobody else’s, hes still the same player and gets the same amount of respect he always has from me...ok?

Rebel - Madnotlobian thinks I am spreading nasty rumours. You mentioned the rumour too, so I would expect him to accuse you of the same thing when he reads your article. I am not criticising you.

no, i know. it wasnt really targeted at you, i know you was pointing it at somone else

Repeating these RUMOURS, and that's all they are, just stupid gossipy chinese whispers, on here or anywhere, is just spreading them. What's so difficult to understand about that?
They are just rumours, which lead to speculation about nasty stuff, even if you aren't mentioning the nasty stuff yourself, you are spreading it. So yes, spreading them is shameful.

Suprised you have an Internet connection If that's your opinion on the Internet and debating sites like this..

Your opinion is the OP should be ashamed.. Mine and others on this thread is he shouldn't.

That be that then.
