Alot people who are feeling suicidal and depressed dont tell people because of the stigma attached to mental illness.
Hopefully the one positive out of this sad event is that mental illness will get the recognition it deserves and people wont feel ashamed to come out and admit how they are feeling and get the treatment they need.

There tends to be a real problem with males in their early to mid 40s. In the town where I live there was a quite a lot of them within a few years of each other. I think in the past there has been this idea that men have to just deal with problems and as a result the older generation cant communicate what they are feeling or talk to their mates about their problems. Hopefully this is changing with the younger generations and we are becoming more open and getting the help from our mates and family that we need.
This is one of the more disgusting articles I've read on this site and I've read some drivel written by total idiots.
Parks_Pet_Dog (U11198) - congratulations. You're the biggest idiot on here.
Despite you're 'opinion' being completely offensive, wrong-headed and insensitive, the fact you felt you had to share it with other people makes you a real 5 star, solid gold idiot.
I'm fairly shocked that this has been allowed to stay up, to be honest.

At least we have the opportunity to discuss it and hopefully educate a few people.

I am somebody who never has and never will talk about my feelings with anybody apart from my wife. Even when I was a child I never talked to my family about anything. I have always kept everything to myself and always felt I could handle it. I still do. I have been depressed a few times in my life, as has everybody but some people need others to help them through it and some don't.
If there are people who need the help, then they are the one's who suffer when they feel like they can't talk to anybody.

why dont you walk by this article if you dont like it. Or even complain about it. But to contribute to it with your own opinion and telling the op that he is offensive to share it with the rest of us (including yourself) makes you look like a prat. Its a very good debate.

You have to be so brave to commit suicide.
"There is a world of difference between feeling low every so often, and being depressed."
Interesting, can you try to help us all understand the difference?
Having read through the comments, there are quite a few people talking sense on here. My problem is with the OP and the wording of it.
It's a symptom of an old-fashioned, 'tough guys don't talk about their feelings' attitude that is so wrong and so damaging.
The words 'coward' or 'selfish' shouldn't come into it ever. Suicide is never either of these things.
It's just very, very sad that a man who looked like he had so much going for him from the outside could be so unhappy on the inside.
If it is something to do with The Sun, well.. words fail me, to be honest.

Not sure if you are being serious or not, but I for one cant ever imagine having the balls to hang myself. I just couldn’t do it.

I couldn't do it either. Once you've done it. That's it. You're gone forever. Things must have been really bad for Gary Speed for him to think this was the answer

Once I read it, I wanted to make my feelings known. It's a subject that I know a bit about, unfortunately. and I found the OP's comments very disrespectful and indicative of a complete misunderstanding of suicide and the causes of it.
it is a good debate. No doubt. That's what this site is for, after all, so I fail to see how it makes me look like a prat, however, if that's your opinion, good luck to you.
Fairfieldred aka Assorted World Class Youth 24... (U7714) - The article had created a serious debate before I even noticed it.
Yesterday I banned El_Pistolero7 for the posting of two articles that weren't a million miles away from this one.
Thanks for sharing.
Seems like you have to feel a comfort level to discuss feeling without being poo-pooed that you are being ridiculous for feeling how you feel.

To be honest, I'm guilty of the cardinal sin of reacting to the OP without reading all the posts. But yeah, it has turned into a decent discussion.
Fairfieldred, just maybe if you had read the comments before you bludgeoned your original two-penneth in. That's all. Admin has made it clear that we are walking on eggshells...
