Likewise!
10 years of academic endeavour in biosciences has provided me with a job where I am left to get on with my work at my own, reasonable pace. When its busy, I'm busy, when its not, I'm not.........and no, its not the public sector, but it definitely has that sort of a feel about it somedays.

Lets pick this up again tomorrow when we might have something to talk about that we both agree on - the draw for the euros.

Good to see civility breaking out.I'll throw my two bobs' worth in as a help in changing tack,,,, " Shamrock Rovers,, worthy standard bearers for the L.O.I.,, OR WHA ?". Points will be deducted in the absence of 3 confirmed sources for each quote, and adequate footnotes, though essential are no guarantee of a passing grade, best of luck.

A guy from Dublin ripping on the SPL

Since when do you support a team judging by the quality of the league they are in? The Irony is lost. I bet your one of those guys who runs around Dublin wearing an English football club top like Man Utd or Liverpool.

Is that directed at me? Whats so strange about a guy from Dublin (or from anywhere for that matter) saying the SPL is rubbish?

I support one club (Shamrock Rovers) and one nation (Ireland). I dont support any teams judging by the quality of the league, just by the country that the league is in, and this is cross-referenced with the country in which I am a citizen or am resident.
Otherwise, I usually prefer whichever team has the most Irish players playing for them.

As for being "one of those guys who runs around Dublin wearing an English football club top"......Since I have been resident in the UK for the best part of 10 years, I have not "run around Dublin" in quite a while......and no, I dont own a football top. Have not done since I was a teenager.

Now, off you trot.....thats a good lad. I have plenty to catch up with today (thanks Mcilvick!) before the euros draw later.

Spare me the rubbish, Giving the SPL stick when the LOI is in the state its in is a strange one. The SPL is an awful league but that wont stop me supporting Celtic, the same way it wont stop me supporting Derry City.

You one of the guys who suddenly started supported Rovers after they qualified for Europe?

posted on 5/12/11

How many teams from SPL qualified (and not by default) for Europa League? How many LOI teams?

Anyway, who cares about what state the LOI is in? Its still the league of your country......well, for you, maybe not actually, given that you support Derry........we wont go there.

That's an inaccurate comment to make. There are those within the 6 counties who regard Ireland as their country and the ROI team as their national side. Your partionist view pertaining to national boundaries as well as clubs with ties to other nation states or supporters from other nationalities appears to be narrow and negative.

I was delighted Rovers made it to the EL group stages this season, I hope they make it to the CL next season. Their win over Partizan was one of the greatest ever achievements in Irish soccer history.

Being parochial and closed-minded about the LOI does not help their cause. It is perfectly acceptable for Irish football supporters to support teams from Scotland or England as well as support LOI teams. If the LOI continues to improve, they will naturally tap in to a larger percentage of the Irish football supporters base. I hope that happens.

Derry btw is part of the LOI set up as you know, there may come a time that the other clubs in the North will be part of it too.

I would love to see an all-Ireland league. And I believe that this will happen in time. I am neither narrow nor negative towards supporters or clubs from any other country......I simply find it strange that people from one country can so vehemently support a club from another country (unless they have personal ties to this country). That is all.

Like Celtic FC you mean. Yes many would say that "they" - as in Celtic - have many personal ties to this country
