There is no other industry that would let such incompetence fester. In cricket it's generally ex pros that umpire and the standard remains very high,I realise there is a fitness issue with ex pros in football plus the wealth the top pros have generated makes it unlikely but there's plenty of players on the scapheap in their twenties who could go straight into reffing.

shame you didn't say the same last week as it was United on the recieving end of a howler. Even more funny is that Fergie pointed this out 18 months ago and the media and ABU's all wanted him shot, best league in the world but we have some of the worse refs. But I see things are starting to change....glad you're catching on!

Your not addressing the root cause though PP. Its called the profesional foul and its assosiated illness. The professional dive, the professional my throw in my corner etc . The profesional lets get the opposition sent off.

Its all very well blaming the ref for honest mistakes but until the cancer thats become rife in the game, and no its nothing to do with foreign players, then the so called bad decisions will continue.
Skirtl
Balo diving
The hand ball from Henry

All these can be judged and punished after the match. Perhaps if players knew they would get a 5 match ban, and more importantly managers knew they would be without players for that leangth of time then we could address the standard of refereeing.
A bit like players being cited by the opponents in RU and the FA actually having the balls to do something about it.
That way refs could make decisions on a level playing field without being blamed for players conning them. Its oh so easy to blame the ref for not spotting someone diving rather than blame the actual player for diving in the first place. We all have players on our teams that are prone to use the current phrase "go down easy" yet we stick by them and blame the ref. Yes refs make mistakes but funny thing is so do managers yet you never hear them appologising to the ref after slating him saying sorry made a mistake my players did handle the ball. Oh no its I didnt see the incident. etcetc

Point of the article =

SAF, the knower of all things football..

Everything about the structure of football seems to be totally mismanaged from Blatter and his cronies down.
The solutions are all fairly obvious from goalline technology down to having a panel of ex pros to go over all the games afterwards and right the wrongs, suspend the divers etc
For some reason they seem more interested about how we will turn a profit than sorting the incompetence out

TBH I think most refs would love to explain their decisions but its the FA and their own association that stops them.

Its all very well saying managers should have the freedom to critisize refs but I bet this would only be a 1 way thing. Can you imagine the faces of managers if refs accused them of sending out thugs to cripple the opposition, intimidate the ref and continually harass them in the tunnel?
I'm all for freedom of speech but its a 2 way thing.
