Is Modric worth the money?

I don't care how much we pay for players.
It isn't my money and it makes other fans bitter so it's all good.

But you and I both know that Roman's moneypit isn't bottomless.

If you blow that on Modric, it's highly unlikely you'll be signing other world class players that your side clearly need.

I think Modric is a good player. Not sure he would improve us by much though. Id rather we made a real push for Pastore or Hazard. That'll require ridiculous money though.

I hope Modric is a smoke screen.

We signed Luiz,Ramires,Torres and Paizon in the last year.
Add in Lukaka and De Gruyne and Modric and I think we'll be set for a few years tbh.

@ R t M: Good shout out re: Pastore. I think he's a very good player with huge potential who might only cost the same as Modric.

@ D of M: What are your thoughts on Ramires? Chelsea fans seem to be generally split on him - some think he's good others think he's a poor man's Obi Mikel.

He started off slowly but by seasons end was one of our better more consistent players.
He has the potential to be a legend.

(Best transfer we made last year, including Luiz)

It depends who you believe on what they'll be willing to accept ..... after really weighing this up in my head, i'd be happy to go as far as 35M, an extra five million i've added due to inflation. He is one of the rarest types of players to embrace the big stage - a box-to-box playmaker.

If Abramovich truly wants us to replicate Barca, he's the closest thing we'll get to Xavi.

Palermos club president is quoting Pastore will only go for 45 mil. I don't think we'd go that far for Modric.

Ramirés is good. Still young. Will improve.

Some people think Mikel is a poor mans excuse for a player, which is ludicrous. He's very good as a DM. When on form he's a force in that midfield.

Modric?

I would have thought Yaya Toure is more of that mould than Modric

posted on 17/6/11

But then we have less than no chance of luring Yaya Toure to the Bridge

Really don;t get this hostility to Modric. Quality player and I think you'd be very hard pushed to deny we need a creative presence in midfield. Our midfield last season was woeful and imo that was a big reason for our misfiring striker. Watch Spurs and see how many of their chances originate from him

IMO we will get him for about £30 million and he's easily worth every penny of that

Sneijder and Pastore really aren't waht we're looking for, both play as pseudo-strikers. They'd hardly be much cheaper in any case

Sneijder and Pastore would both be exactly what we need. I imagine with Hiddink in we'll be playing in a 4-2-3-1 as well so either one of the three mentioned would work. I just believe Pastore would potentially be amazing.

I'm still not convinced by Modric. Hes just a decent Premier League Midfielder - nothing more. In the PL alone there are players like Nasri, McCarthy and Adam who would cost a fraction of the price of Modric and IMO all would be just as effective

posted on 18/6/11

Adam is overweight, can't get around the pitch like Modric can.

posted on 18/6/11

Not half as skillful as Modric, also cannot use his right foot.

posted on 18/6/11

Charlie Adam is the biggest joke in the Premier League since Jermaine Beckford.

I don't understand why tabloids actually imagine readers to be stupid enough to believe Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal are chasing Adam!

posted on 18/6/11

Yet Adam has 12 goals and 8 assists compared to Modrics 3 and 3. Now I know Modric plays deeper and that his overrall play is better but for 35-45 million which Spurs want he's not worth it. For that kind of money we could get players twice as good as Modric and for less than half the money we could get players just as good as Luka

posted on 18/6/11

Liverpool probably are, after 20 million or Henderson you wouldn't bet against it...

posted on 18/6/11

Probably *were

Liverpool are defo in the chase for him,he's expected to sign for liverpool next week.

TBK there is not a midfielder in the world that is twice as good as Modric.

Fair enough, but there are plenty who are better than him, though

If if they are better, of similar age and binded to a long term contact then they are going to cost more. If a club sells for less than that's their loss.

I think Modric is very underrated. Backbone of Spurs and Croatia..
