Seeing it live on my laptop at the time i thought "The Ref has had a shocker", and to be honest i still thought that up until i saw the highlights on Sunday

But if you actually have a look, Parker IS through on goal and he also has Ade in support who he can lay the ball into, to me it was a VERY good goal scoring opportunity, but i would be annoyed if the red card happened to us

Morning chicken

I think most people bemoan the fact that far too often officials stick to the letter of the law rather than trying to impose some common sense.

As I said on the day, I assume the decision was cos Defoe had also broke the line and a 2 on 1 against the GK was on.

And again, I doubted whether the ref could have seen such a thing from his position (unless he was installed with WengerEye -TM) .

i will be honest.

i was sitting at the end parker was running towards...

when he was brought down, the whole block has gone up and appealed for a red card. in my mind at the game at the time i thought he was 100% running clear and going to be one on one, thus it was a red card.

only when i later saw it on motd did i think ok it was harsh.....

Before the game Harry Redknapp said, he'll sign Cahill in January. I think Gary would like to find a house near Spurs lodge hence he walked away in the middle of the game.

Tottenham - whiter than white, what they say and what they do.

It is a rule open to much interpretation. All you have to do is watch what Luiz got away with. The ref in that deemed that Ba was not in control of the ball thus it was not an obvious scoring opportunity. But if Luiz hadn't hauled him down he would have got the ball.

In the Spurs incident, Parker is hardly the quickest player. If it was Bale or Lennon, then yes it may have been a goalscoring opportunity. But I cannot see how the ref has deemed that an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

Does a ref take into account the player fouled? For instance, Emile Heskey clean through is surely not an obvious goalscoring opportunity, thus a player should never be sent off for fouling him.
But what if a player smashes in a 35 yarder? Does that mean everytime he has the ball 35 yards out it should be deemed an obvious goalscoring opportunity, and everytime that player is fouled in this area the offender should be sent off??

Red was harsh. However you look at it BUT the more I look at it the more i have come to the conclusion that it was a deliberate trip by Cahill (rather than a mis-timed tackle) AND if Parker was put away ONLY Knight was back and Defoe was totally unmarked in the middle.

Not sure the ref has to consider the speed of Parker vs Knight, fact was it was a potential goal scoring position even if that was not 100% certain or that the scoring opportunity ultimately might have come to Defoe in the middle.

Having said all that it was harsh, but lets face it Bolton were never going to get anything from that game. They went from 9 behind the ball and 1 up front to 9 behind the ball.

TBH......The only effect it had on the game was that it gave Coyle the opportunity for a moan and an excuse...........We were already in front and would have won the game easily whether they had 10 ,11 or 12 players , just like the Pool match

Pretty sure that the wording used for the law is 's clear goalscoring opportunity'.

It was certainly not clear that Parker would've scored from there.

It is a fair assumption that Knight would not have moved back as he doesn't often move, but surely that is what would've happened? He would have covered the pass to the striker and also cut down the angle for Parker.

Cahill/Parker were in front of Knight when the tackle was made. Knight was the last man. He was also central, making it easier to cut off the angle for Parker.

The decision was ridiculous.
