I thought Diaby played brilliantly there last season, even much better than Song.

exactly why we need cover for him, if he aint playing well we need to replace him, Diaby goes walkabout too often and doesnt have the head to stay in that position. He should be played as an attacking MF but since we dont have cover for Song Wenger plays him there which is why he looks so average. I do actually rate him...

yh we need an engine as it wud give us more flexibility in midfield as well - song cant play in a 442, the fact that we dont have another dm means we cant actually play in a 442...

wengers pizza delivery boy.

i agree with you there. diaby gets played as cover for song but clearly isn't a defensive midfielder. just because he is big and strong, people think it's his natural position. he is an attacking midfielder that has great dribbling ability. i'd rather see a new player come in to provide cover and competition for song, and have diaby being played attacking midfield when called upon.

finally its something we all agree on, I seriously hope Wenger gets cover or else there is no point get excited by all these other signings, as they wont matter.

are you forgetting just how good Frimpong was last pre-season? Hopefully if he recovers from his injury okay (which undoubtedly we will see this pre-season), he will be perfectly good backup to Song this season. If he moves away this transfer window, admittedly we're screwed, Diaby is an attacking forward anyday, and a bad one at that, just like Denilson, which is why they both have to go.

I have got a feeling we might be playing djourou or vermaelen in midfield in pre season.

First of all, I agree that I would like to see someeone bought to fill the role.

What i want to ask is what are the options if we dont. As we all know Arsenal tend to leave signings late to try to get the best deal and they sometimes fall through. If something like that happens we need to know where we stand. Heres what I think, for what its worth.

Frimpong was supposed to be a squad player last year but obviously got injured. After a season out I dont think we can rely on him this year.

Wilshere has been learning to play a more defensive role and regularly spoke of his defensive partnership with Song, but I dont think he is the answer as an out and out DM. Ramsey is a similar player but again is more of an attacking player, so its not him.

That leaves the CB's that you say you dont want playing there. I disagree in that I think a 1st team regular CB can fill the role of DM better than a bit part squad player (but not necessarily always). With TV back from injury and if we do get Samba or Cahill it gives us more options. TV and Djourou have both been linked with the DM position in the past and could do the role for a bit. It wasnt possible last season due to injuries etc.

Another reason we must get cover for Son that no-ones mentiond....

When is the next ACoN?

Please stop the talk about frimpong, he played okay in pre-season but those games are meaningless, the premier leauge is 10 times tougher. Frimpong is behind in Coquelin at the moment, plus Coquelin and had a full year of football and development whereas frimpong has just stunted his development.

It looks like we are addressing our issues at LB, CB, LW, and CF

Where do you get that impression from?

LB - TV can play there if we sign a CB Baines is on the radar

CB - Samba, Cahill et al

LW - Hazard, Downing

CF - Gervinho

Let's get this straight. Vermaelen will not play left back for us next year as he is our best centre back.

We do not need a new centre back necessarily.

We will not get Hazard and Gervinho, and Downing is a pub player who would ply his trade in the Championship if it were not for the fact that he is left footed.

Gervinho is a winger in the mould of Arshavin, so no, we have not addressed our striker problem.

We have bought no-one so far who will improve our squad so how can you say we are addressing our problems based on a few media gossip articles?
