Tino, don't know how you can dislike a guy like Puyol. I'm a Madrid fan and I love him. Proper no nonsense footballer who gets on with his stuff without resorting to dirty tricks. 100% commitment at all times, loyal, works hard as a horse and a real leader on the pitch, even though he's never really acknowledged for it. Always makes it back from injury before the stipulated recovery times too.

Hard as nails as well. Loved that scene last year when he got his eyebrow cut open, he just sat down on the byline whle the physio stapled it together and just as the last staple went in he sprang to his feet and started waving wildly to the ref to let him back on.

Wouldn't have put it past him last night to ask the physio to just chop it off and mop up the blood so he could get back on the pitch.

Btw, props to Benfica fans for the ovation they gave him last night when he was stretchered off.

cheers tips...been a long time since I was down that way....better to cruise there then Brighton

He's the antithesis of Barça's game. He looks like a headless chicken with that mop bouncing around all over the place, but he gets the business done. Better technique than you'd think too:

Barça-Valencia head to head on the last day of the season for the last CL slot. Barça needed the win, Valencia just a draw.

That's a hattrick, not a brace

posted on 3/10/12

Yeah, just thought it was a good excuse to watch it again. I remember went spare at the time at Barça getting in the CL, but you gotta take your hat off to the man, he was superb.

Turned out to be well worth it to - ultimately, it was the goal that qualified the for the CL, where they made the semis where we beat them at the Camp Nou. One of my happiest football moments ever.

Are you from Spain then? I need Madrid to win tonight to keep my percentage up for our accy.

That hattrick was amazing, I could watch the overhead kick over and over again. Unbelievable tekkers, and the importance of it makes it one of the best goals ever IMO.

I've got a mate who was born in Majorca, livedthere till he was about 15-16, but went to boarding school in the UK. He's got a proper London accent but speaks fluent Spanish. It freaks me out.

He's a Barca/Tranmere fan (gloryhunter )

That's my case too. Always spoke both at home - English (w/my brothers& sisters) and Spanish (w/my parents) at home. Grew up in London and moved here aged 12, but never lost the accent.

My old man was a Madrid fan, and moving back to Madrid they were the obvious choice for me.

As far as England goes though, I support Ipswich, even though I've never set foot in the place in my whole life. We're a rare breed, Ipswich plastics.

Ah, his mum was born on the Wirral so he's at least got an excuse.

Do you just have a fetish for "trackors"?
