RRP - I did, but on that subject I kinda have mixed views. I think the original idea behind it was that the smaller nations that often struggle to get out of the CL group stages have something to take part in into the second part of the season.

However, it ends up working out that typically the stronger nations still up end getting the third place and the team that should go through to the Europa (the weaker teams) end up finishing fourth and have nothing to show for the year other than some heavy defeats and some memories.

I wouldn't have a problem with teams like Otelul Galati, Genk and BATE Borisov dropping into the Europa just so they can compete for longer for doing well in their domestic leagues.

Yet, I know that would just end up leading to teams loosing on purpose and as such not workable.

You need these smaller teams in the CL, as its only fair, but they just end up being the whipping boys for the most part.

I can't think of a solution, other than maybe a bigger league and then go straight into semi-finals. Might also stop teams fielding weaker teams in the final games because they could easily be over taken and lose out on the semi-final places.

I hope Harry keeps speaking out against the FA.................making enemies there will mean he might not get offered the England job, what a shame!!!

31 Moments - Personally i agree with what Harry was saying, how can the Europa League be taken seriously when the drop outs of the CL go straight into the knock-out rounds? It makes a mockery of the competition and its no surprise no one takes it seriously

I do agree though, that for some smaller teams in the CL, the Europa League offers another chance, but it still never sits right with me..

2 things that could EASILY makes the Europa League worth winning:

1)Winner gets entry into the CL
2)No CL drop outs joining in
3)Bigger Prize Pool

RRP..........................Good suggestions, but you just know that they will do nothing at all!!

Greaves - Exactly

But its nice to dream eh!

Its just SO simple, everyone can see what will improve the competition, yet nothing is done!

RRP - I agree that it does devalue the competition, Im not saying I agree with the current situation, but I feel that it was set up with good intentions that just didn't work out that well. (I may be completely wrong and it was just set up by foolish individuals).

I agree with your views on how to make the Europa better as well, although I would be open to both finalists being given CL places (losers having to qualify at an earlier stage than the winners).

I wasn't overly fussed about the Europa this year as a Spurs fan as I see the 4th spot being more important this year because we all fear without it the risk of this team breaking up would increase. In previous seasons though I have always enjoyed the European nights, attending them when I can. There is something about White Hart Lane midweek night game against a team from Europe that is really only bettered by playing some of the better or the lesser pathetic rival (thats for you mafia) teams of the PL. Well for me anyway.

genius and RRP, I have to admit I'm not an avid European football fan (I mean of watching foreign games and teams on a regular basis) but I wonder if its really only the UK that doesn't hold this competition in such high regard.

Although the teams that have been in it recently from the country are either teams like us and Liverpool who can see it as a distraction from trying to get CL places and such have problems with it, Or, it has been teams like Stoke, Fulham, Birmingham, that don't have the squads to deal with it and the fear of falling out of the PL is too much of a risk that they may just not be able to play the amount of games needed without risk. That said, I have some Fulham friends that went to the final a while back and they just loved being there.

31.................................I think if the profile of the competition was different then we would show a more enthusiastic approach. However if you look at Stoke, I think they have played over 13 games more than us this season alone. Their season began back in July!!

Awarding a CL place to the winners would be an excellent start & I totally disagree with rewarding CL failure with a position in an other competition!!

Nice to see Arry and David Moyes on the same page.
And they're right .... the FA should not have appealed the Rooney ban. The guy needs a little discipline.
His head is much bigger than any other part of his body.

Harry is spot on. Shocking double standards by the FA. How is potato head ever going to learn any better without being punished appropriately. Instead the FA make excuses for him.
