I think that your missing the full stop button on your keyboard...
To be honest 4-4-2 has worked for us (crystal palace, blackpool). We've had a game where we've conceded a penalty and had a man sent off and our game plan fell apart so its harsh to even count that. We dominated Peterborough but they played the 'park the bus' game and we couldn't score. We drew this game.
So as a whole, I don't think it's the formation thats failing us. However, although I fully support stability, I feel maybe swapping wellens for a hungry fernandes would encourage competition for places and add a bit of bite to our midfield. We are getting goals through Gallagher so I feel it would be crazy to drop him and Dyer is also doing a job.
I would hope that the likes of Gallagher, King, Dyer, Beckford and Nugent are practicing movement and making these runs in training until they are nailing them every time, as this is something we do need to improve.
In reality though, is there that much of a change from a 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1 apart from in two positions.
I guess what I'm really asking is, whilst keeping a similar structure (two wide players), will we reap more benefit from a team perspective by playing a defensive midfielder instead of a second striker?
Wasn;t it wellens who slipped the ball through neatly for Beckford to hit the post on saturday?
Wasn't that the at least the second time in recent matches he's set up Beckford?
He definitely has the most assists for goals and I'm pretty sure he has the most assists for shots.
I wasn't his greatest fan when he first came to the club, but I am gobsmacked that people are calling for his head after a few average/poor performances.
You're missing the point with Wellens - I've just posted an article on him. Yes, he's set Beckford up twice in recent matches, but he's also given the ball away in key positions 10-15 times per game.
I would disagree that he gives the ball away 10-15 times a game in key positions. Unfortunately these sort of stats aren't recorded to it's all conjecture.
