lets see what happens to your club this season berz before getting ahead of yourselves and asking if there will be a club to break the OF dominance.
---
Why don't you worry about trying to get ahead of us for a change?
"Only 19 non-OF teams have ever won the Scottish Championship."
Only? That's quite a lot. Nine teams have been Spanish champions. 23 in England. 12 have won the Bundesliga. 16 clubs have been Serie A champions. 25 in the Netherlands. And so on. So having 21 champions is nae too bad.
"If they take the gate price down to a relaistic price to attract more fans an thereby safeguard their future and generate more long-term gains"
If you reduce ticket prices, you have to increase attendances quite dramatically to break even. Example - lets say you get an average of 10,000 paying £25. If you reduce the price to £15 you need to attract around 16,600 fans. Is that a risk worth taking right now? Perhaps, but you can see why clubs who are already making a loss are loath to do so.
As for future SPL non-old firm champions, of course it could happen. I find it odd that some people believe there are such strict constants in football.
It cant be 19 teams...... can it....?
perhaps 19 times
well said Arabian
you get it off yir chest Sir
Henrik, it's all relative my friend. Rangers took close to 200,000 fans to Manchester in 2008. Celtic took a huge support to Seville which would at least have doubled if the game had been in the UK. People will always turn out for the massive games, the ones which do not happen at their club very often. This is not isolated to non OF fans.
I know loads of arabs who don't go anymore, none of them state the reason as the fact that United don't win anything. The league is boring non-competitive and predictable. The volume of people in this country who choose to follow the OF and never put a penny into Scottish football are responsible for many of the problems that we are now seeing.
the OF fill you ground twice a season
and even your what 6000 that go to home games become less than 1000 for away games.
so your fans also put nothing back if thats the case.
Duke, that logic is ridiculous. Anyone who buys a season ticket or pays to go and watch their club is putting something in. All I am saying is there are far too many people who have never been to Glasgow and claim to follow the OF. They never put a penny into Scottish football and are responsible for the state of the game to an extent. If you say you are a football supporter then you should support football.
I dont get that one bit.
Plenty say the support Albion Rovers but dont go.
If you choose not to go to football thats up to you.
Geeze I support my local golf club but if I decide no to join will be my fault when it shuts
If the clubs cant get people through the door then its the fault of the clubs.
Of course it is partly the fault of the club, but when you are a football club you are operating in an environment of competition with other football clubs. This applies on and off the park.
Duke, if Albion Rovers went to the wall tomorrow then obviously the people who claim to support them and have not actually provided any support at all are considerably responsible. I would have though that was obvious. A club can not survive on the suggestion that there are people out there who haven't been along for a number of years, they need fans through the gate, that is the responsibility of the fans and the club
Look Arabian
If your local decided not to put the heating on and change to poor quality beer and the regulars stop going.
Whos fault is it when it closes
If the local picture hall decide they will only show re runs of Jaws 3 and nobody bothers going.
Whos fault will it be when it shuts down.
Give people good facilities good beer and good movies.
All will be well in the world.
I fully understand the concept of your argument Duke, however there are fundemental differences.
People do not claim to have an undying passion for going to the cinema, they do not constantly flick out their mobiles to see what the latest listing are when shopping with the missus. The examples given do not generate the passion and loyalty which football supporters claim to have for their teams. I just do not understand why if this is the case then so many give the clubs absolutely no assistance ata ll.
Secondly the facilities are not garbage, it's just that people are losing interest because the league is hugely stale. This is indirectly a result of decreased income. Anyone who has turned their back on "their team" is partly responsible for this.
I think if you go outwith the SPL the facilities can be dodgy
People say they are big fans of this team or that team it matter not a jot.
If your a fan say wee Billy and you earn 250 bucks a week have 2 kids and a mortgage
You weigh up your priorities
You decide not to go to football anymore.
Does that mean you have to stop saying you support so and so.
The game has to grab you it has to make you want to spend the money.
Give people a product they can enjoy and they will come.
Sorry mate I cant accept that its the fault of people who dont go to games.
Its not my responsibility though I go anyway
I totally understand your point Duke and obviously the current financial situation is heavily impacting on the average family. I don't expect people to say that they are no longer fans of clubs as many in such a situation still make an attempt to go when they can.
When Dundee nearly went under twice the next week the home gate was doubled. People do realise that if there club is on the brink they need to support it. Why do clubs need to be on their knees though to attract back the fans who have deserted them?
"It cant be 19 teams...... can it....?
perhaps 19 times"
Duke you're right. 11 non-old firm teams have been Scottish champions, 19 times between them. Still more than Spain or Germany.
Aberdeen - 4
Hearts - 4
Hibs - 4
Dumbarton - 2
Motherwell - 1
Kilmarnock - 1
Dundee - 1
Dundee United - 1
Third Lanark - 1
who knows
But they should think about it before it gets to that stage.
To many other things to do with money these days.
Desert is strong
People have choices to make and if the Cinema is a better option then football needs to look at its self.
Cinema is a good comparison
20 years ago they were all shutting so the reinvent them selves as multiplex and the likes.
AK, this gate-sharing thingy.
You expect Celtic = 60,00+ and Rangers = 50,000+ to share gates with teams who have 15,000 seater stadia?
Aye that's fair for the teams who never invest.
Tell you what. Every SPL team must have a 30,000 seater minimum. Then we can discuss a gate sharing plan.
west coast
11 total including the OF
Erm.. Quebcelt. I never said anything of the sort. I think gate sharing is a non-starter and unfair. No idea where you got that from. I was talking about TV revenue.
"11 total including the OF"
Yeah, I wasn't giving that 100 per cent concentration when I was writing it.
West-Coast, was that you that mentioned gate-sharing? Is that a picture of an Aberdeen fan all red?
Quebecelt, If you want to know who brought up gate-sharing, why don't you re-read the thread.
Pro-tip 1: It wasn't me.
Pro-tip 2: I think it was you.
U-10878 said it. just used to other teams fans wanting something for free that Rangers and Celtic have built over the years.
