Worse than last year?

are you insane?

By that logic we also won 2-1 against a team that beat United 6-1. Stop being so worried about United who have also had problems this season.

Anyway this squad is better than it was last season and on par with the one from Scolari/Grant. They had better first-teams but rubbish squad depth

worst finish ever????

you serious????

were you not following us in the 90's mate?

first season i remember supporting chelsea we were like 14th or something!

common man get behind your team

We were at the peak of our powers under Scolari and especially Grant both should have done better considering.

AVB has took over a broken squad.

Sorry chaps. We were title contenders at the beginning of the season.

Look at us now. I like AVB but I blame the players aswell for the negligence in his philosophy.

Yes worse then last year Sturridge's right foot, as last year, we actually managed to finish 2nd/

Where we will finish this year? God knows.

I know one thing for sure, Roman SURELY wont let this happen, and will pull out the stops to get us back on track.

Under Scolari/Grant we were a RB away from a pretty complete squad.

Under AVB (to have a team near Grant's CL final team) we need a new CM, CB, DM and a ST as well as quality back-ups in LB, CM and DM.

Of course its not the worst squad as its mainly the same players.
Meireles for Ballack
Torres for Anelka
Mata for Cole
Luiz for Carvalho
Not that much in it really but its teaching them to play a quicker, passing game thats foxed them. That plus the fact that City, United, Arsenal and Spurs have completed their transition phases quicker than us.

Agreed with the OP

This squad is the worst we've had in 21st century, no doubt about it.
And mark this post, things are about to get much worse.

So Mata and Sturridge in and Zhirkov out is going backwards?

It's not the worst squad however the balance is not there . We got players like Mata, Romeou and Sturridge playing with the likes of Lampard and Cole.

Exactly!
And AVB knew that was going to be the problem when he arrived. His system will see the back of Drogba, Anelka, Alex, Terry, Cole, Kalou, Malouda, Essien and Lampard but he couldnt change them all in one go.
It would have been fatal.

Our squad is in transition - so we need to stay patient. Looking at the squads in all the top teams - we are just about where we belong right now. You can hardly blame AVB for the ageing squad. He is going to have to move the older players out while bringing in younger and faster players - and that will take time. At the same time he has to qualify for the CL for next year - so it is no easy task. You can't just throw all the existing players away and bring in 11 new players. But it is true that the current squad is not as good as it was a couple of years ago - Terry, Lampard and Drogba were the backbone of the team, and they now are all slower than they were. It's hard to replace that kind of ability overnight.

I want our transition to go faster!, is that too much to ask?

You want fast (as in Porto ) thats transPORTation.
As for TranSITion, well that requires patience as the "SIT" will suggest.

What you think that a succsesful transion will take 2 months? A year at the very least.... Look at arsenal theyve been int transition since 2004
