Alex stewart wore the same pants if england kept on winning...... graham thorpe used to chew the same chewing gum until he was out (sometimes would leave it on the handle of his bat overnight!!)...Im sure there are more examples.

Why ? Is she hooked on this site too !!
Neon,
I am a great believer in keeping things simple. Superstitions do NOT allow you to keep things simple. A pro athlete has a lot to worry about as it is, so why compound the problem by worrying about something that do not have any effect on the result what so ever.

"Do you know if Srinath wears those threads, Or Ashwin wears that chain off the field? rather than it just being cricket, it could genuinily be personal beliefs."
It is personal belief, but does it help them perform better?

"Singh - Maybe, why they wear it, what it reminds them of, may well help them. It may help them get into the correct frame of mind to go out there and perform their best"
Watch Ishant Sharma's bowling; in particularly after he follows through. Instead of focusing on whether his last delivery was on target and whether his wrist was behind the ball, he is fixing his necklace which has rotated around and popped out of the shirt. How can you say that is helping his bowling?

Now imagine this being done every day, every over, every delivery.

"Singh - why does he wear it? what does it remind him of?
I see where your coming from, but without having some understanding of why he wears it, and what it means to him, I cant answer that."
There is a popular saying "I don't remember you, because I never forgot you in the first place"
So if he needs a necklace to remind him of something/someone, then that something/someone must not have meant much in the first place.

"why do people have pictures of relatives who have past away, in their house?
Or take pictures of parties, weddings etc..I mean if the moment was that important they wouldent need them."
"If I was running, tired, shatterred, and I saw my family at the side.....even if they dident see me, It would just make me go that much faster..."
------------------------------------------------
Now imagine if you were running with a picture (photo frame) of you family in your hand.
I am not against having them in the stands, I am against them being on you.

Team India is in decline because
1) Too much focus on shorter formats
2) Aging squad
3) Flat pitches at home means a lot of adjustment for their batters to make when they go to England, Australia
4) Over dependance on Zaheer in bowling
Spiritual beliefs,(if they espouse any) is definitely not as big a contributor as the above.I think Indians are definitely not as superstitious as Lankans, who every now and then are kissing their bats etc.
