Maybe they just don't believe in coyle or his so called tactics. So when it's a normal game with no additional motivation they just dont try hard enough because they think that what they have been told to do is wrong and will therefore be beat so why bother?
I'm absolutely sure that Coyle motivates his team for each and every game. What's more I'm sure that he is a good motivator. The only problem is what happens when the team start the game and the underperformers lose it.
Owen has stated that these players are not going to play, that is of course, if we have the players to fill the roles that need filling. Boyota and Robbinson are earmarked for the chop, We will see if any other players miss out. There is speculation that SKD will be back. We will have to wait and see.
When you are down to the bare bones you have to play with what you have. It looks as if there a few players ready to step up to the mark now that our injury list is beginning to shorten.
I've also had this conversation with my brothers & friends and we unanmously agreed that on their day, they were just very poor opposition and proved that if we score first, we are set up to capitalise & kill the game.
I am also worried that these teams wont be as bad 2nd time around.
Petrov, I think your remarks are well short of what is true.
I can't accept that players don't go out and do their best. Sometimes their best isn't good enough or they are short on confidence which leads to nerves and silly mistakes occur. I think that is probably nearer to reality.
All three of these games had something in common, we scored first, the amount of times this season that we have conceded two in quick succession is crazy.
This means we have a larger hill to climb which de motivates the team and makes the job even harder, we seriously need to get this sorted if we are going to stay up.
I do not think it had anything to do with motivation or Coyle.
QPR first game back in the top flight since 1995 they had us on the ropes for long periods in the first 40 minutes until Cahill scored, We then took advantage of sloppy defending and a team full of Championship players. We did play them pre buy out without the big money arrivals.
Wigan were on a very bad run of form like us we took advantage of a drop in confidence in this game and it could have been a different outcome if we had faced them say 2 weeks ago.
Stoke fresh from 3 games in 9 days and a hell of a journey back from Europe on the Thursday, They had never won a game after a UEFA Cup game, We scored first after a very dubious ref decision and quick thinking from Klasnic, There heads went down and dodgy goalkeeping helped us in our first 3 goals.
Blackburn the cauldron of hate that is Ewood park helped us there their own fans booing after our first goal we took advantage of their injuries and make shift defence and rode our luck in the latter stages to hold on for a win.
I think we were very lucky to get these wins it was more a case of things going our way for a change than motivation on anyones part i feel.
bathroom staff need to iron out quickly
---------------------
Coyle has bathroom staff? Flashy!
No need to lift the players for a first league game of a new season - especially against ' new boys ' ...and importantly, no sufferin' from ' shell-shock ' either at this stage.
Wigan - Probably the weakest team in the division .... if the players can't see this is a chance to rack up some points ..they never will
Stoke - what with the 3 games in 9 days, etc etc. and the fact that this was the biggest ' ghost ' in our closet, again, if they're not up for this, they'll be up for nothing.
Blackburn - one of the worst 3 teams in the Prem at present - at home, in front of a crowd that's on their backs and even more unhappy with their managerial lot than we are ...there for the taking.
That leaves 14 games so far this season ...all of which would require higher levels of motivation than the 4 self-motivating games above, and an injection of confidence / astute tactics to give us a chance of taking either 3 points, or at least a draw.
We lost the lot.
I think that with eleven players out of contract at the end of the season it's not very motivational for them currently if there are no contract negotiations ongoing.
Whilst they maybe turning up and doing a job I don't think their heart is in it, and it certainly shows on the field. Maybe we should discuss their futures with them...some for less money? More like what they are worth!
Whilst there's a good chance of swapping the division you currently play in for a lower one, it would be madness (and too complicated) to try and negotiate new contracts - both for the club and the players involved.
Simply put if we don't score whilst we're in a good spell of play the heads go down and a mistake is made. Then the players have it in their minds "mustn't make a mistake" which of course leads to another mistake which leads to a goal which then leads to another because they're still worried.
We had no problems with Coyle's tactics this time last year. Funny that ain't it?

I think we've had problems for the second half of last season, and all of this (more or less 12 months). That may be because, after the first half of last season, teams ' sussed us out ' ..and with no Plan B, we were too predictable, and easy to counter. Another reason may be that OC's system relies on specific ' star ' individuals being avaialble to play their part ..and when they're missing, the system's knackered ...
TRR, I kind of see your point but I think we have begun a lot of the other games with a similar level of motivation but it has dropped off the moment we have conceded a goal or things haven't gone our way. The team has no bottle or staying power.
Swansea away - fine until sending off of Gardner
Arsenal away - fine until sending off of Wheater
Sunderland home - didn't turn up for second half
West Brom away - didn't turn up for second half
Newcastle was the first game I've missed this season but from reports and comments on here, we seemed to be fine too until the first goal went in.

.............................................
There's nothing complicated about contract negotiations, that's the deal for PL football next year & that's the deal for the championship, they don't have to agree or sign anything, but you will soon find out who is onside....
largehat
We were fine defensively and with possession in midfield against Newcastle up to that point, but at the expense of not really creating any chances.
Maybe that was a good starting point and we should have held on for a boring 0-0, but we decided to twist as we know.
My first suggestion was only a MAYBE and I don't doubt that he tries to motivate the players it's how they react especially when we go behind.
I think confidence has played a part rather than motivation...
We've been tore a new one many many times this season, so the players need confidence building before you can motivate I'd have thought?
I know we all blast Knight and we did at the beginning of his time with us... But remember the times he looked great, which was down to confidence...
Every clubs fans will tell you Coyle can motivate players and get the best from them... I just wonder if it's human nature that with some players, you stop listening to the same motivation speech after a while??
You don't just buy good technical footballers when you spend millions and millions, you try and buy a player with the right mental strength..
There's nothing complicated about contract negotiations, that's the deal for PL football next year & that's the deal for the championship, they don't have to agree or sign anything, but you will soon find out who is onside....
********
It's not quite so simple as that. For a start, there are players you might only want to offer a deal to if we are in the Championship, but not in the Prem. There are players who will only want to play in the Prem, and who will want to wait n' see if we're still there or not .... There are players injured but due back ..we'll want to see how they perform before offering any deal at all, etc.etc.
Add to that the fact that the Chairman and his staff will (hopefully) be concentrating all their efforts on finding new recruits between now and the end of Jan, then negotiating with players who are definitely here anyway until the end of the season is not a priority.
..and if (as you say) they don't have to agree anything or sign anything, even if they WERE made an offer ...then how would anyone know who was ' onside ' or not?
You have to presume they're ALL onside ...because we don't have the resource to replace all the players concerned anyway, regardless!
It's been mentioned on here before but in our current plight maybe a baton down the hatches approah will be better. Less this manager is great and that managers my pal and more 'you know what to beat us they gonna have to kill us' might be in order. I am not saying lay into other teams or managers but it's ok for saf to back up kean when he knows utd will get 5 at ewood. Not surehe would be saying that if he was at all worried.
Petrov, can you allow me to follow you? I'm still forbidden?
