I would rather buy someone young like United did with Hernandez. Hunterlaar is a the wrong end of his 20s, but Carroll is at the start of his 20s.
I can see Gerrard getting the best out of Carroll, and the Newcastle game proved it. The balls that Gerrard put in for the big man were unreal.
I would love to see us target someone like Hoilett as a young promising backup player.

Huntelaar is 27 !
He'd have 4 great years left, at least !
Oh wait, hang on we're "building" for the future.
We've been bloody building for the last 20 years.
Get the quality in now, get our deserved footing in the top 4 on a regular basis and THEN bring on the development of the youngsters.
Podolski is always quality in a German national shirt, if he's available we should try and get him.
