Was in Pavilion before the match and Lorimer, McClelland and Karl Harris were on stay having a chat about recent events. Lorimer stated that the figures. McClelland also stated players are on good wages, otherwise and this is one of the reasons we struggle to move them on when we don't want them.

why are you comparing us to barnsley?

How is big Jon these days?

RSL,it was the figures Lorimer mentioned. Plus didn't they do the double over us recently!! So is relevent.

Players are on good wages??.... by Barnsely and Doncaster's standards maybe... by Top 6 standards, for a team with fans that demand a top 2 finish...NO, JUST NO!

With all due respect, Lorimer is paid by Bates and is seen by many fans as a propoganda mouthpiece.

Playing budget can £30million, but if Bates refuses to pay more than 11K a week in wages to any one player (as is currently the case) we will fail to sign quality players.

Quality players at this level can easily earn more than £11k a week, it's just common sense, and maybe just maybe, Bates will finally wake up to this when the window opens

That's got to be a decrease seeing as our wage bill was 12.4 mill in div3 and you can be sure it was higher than that last season.

LBB, we don't have a maximum wage as you put it. Grayson said it himself that he could offer £20k a week but this mean £1m from the budget.
As for clubs with bigger wage bills, this includes who? The relegated clubs.............well they have parachute payments.
Leicester..........well they are spending millions and are below us.

Jonty, that's just on players. The £12m you refer to was all staff, including the 100's of match day personnel.

I know but players is the bulk of it and will have increased considerably with volume of incoming players last season.

True Cas, but if we're financially unable to offer 20K to even just one or two players then how is the manager supposed to go out and sign genuine quality?

Any prem league player or championship talent is going to want 15K +, this means all that is left for us is mediocre championship cast offs and the odd rough diamond from abroad that costs nothing.... oh and loan signings too!

If Lorimer mentioned barnsley then it must be relevant.
Comparing a massive football club with a tiny club is not my idea of a fair comparison

Spot on Cas

I've said for ages our player budget is higher than alot think.

Jonty

7.7m was the figure for players and football management the last season in league 1 with total wages of about 13.7m

Total was 12.4 before social and pension, where did you get the 7.7 (am looking at accounts now)

In this division you need to take certain financial risks in order to gain auto promo, or else stay financially prudent and accept that promotion will only come through the playoffs

OR

Get a manager a miracle-working manager like Lambert to do it on a budget...

However, the latter scenario is incredibly rare in history and pointless to cite as an example...

Larry the average wage in the champ is 200k a year

We paid more than that in league 1 and pay a fair bit high now we in the champ

Not many have a higher wage bill than ours in the league and the facts point to this

But we should be able to pay this when our turnover is miles higher than every club without parachute payments

Infact double than nearly every club in the league is the turnover

LBB, so you think there are players who deserve £20k in this division, because I don't. Do you think players in the premiership are worth £100k plus, because I don't.
I think £10, £11k, £12k is a very good wage for a player at this level.

7.7m for players and football management.

13.7 is the total cost of workforce

Larry

Stop reading the papers

Whilst there are massive wages for certain players, the average wage is 4k a week in the champ

Jonty, what's the staffing level in the accounts? Most are none playing and don't forget Shaun Harvey gets a good salary for example.

...............................................................................

In theory yes, but we all no market forces dictate and the upward pressure on wages in the premiership has trickled down to the championship and means that many top players in this division in fact honestly believe they are worthy of £20k a week.

You have to pay the going rate or accept second best.

32 full time players, 13 apprentices, 13 football management 126 management and admin?

Directors emoluments were 174k

posted on 2/1/12

If you want premier league football then you will have to pay for it
Remind who said that

posted on 2/1/12

So say the average for the 126 is £12k (probably higher) this works out at £1.5m. So it's each to see the figure for the players is going to be a lot less than £10m
