I understand what you;re saying but when they sold Miller last January they still had Jelavic.
We're top of the league just now and he is still here.
The players Rangers seem to be linked with suggest that Mccoist will not get a great deal of the money if he was sold, Rangers seem to be targeting ex players, i.e Novo, Boyd etc
I'm not peturbed either way...good player and that's it.
The Incredible Sulk
We blew the advantage last season and its ours to blow again this season. Rangers will generally be consistent so we have to match that to win the title. The players in both squads are pretty evenly matched on their day, rangers having players who are mentally strong and us who have more creativity in the team.
I know i might get cheek for this, but i would rather the gers did not sign boyd, i know he cannot cut it against decent sides, but he scored loads against the smaller sides and i cannot help but feel that it is those games that will decide the title.
(1) Jelavic is currently in the Rangers team and we are still top of the league, therefore, even with Jelavic, they are currently second. This would suggest that without him, they will only get poorer.
(2) When Kenny Miller left Ibrox, Rangers still had two £4million strikers at the club, who were at the top of their game towards the end of the season and Naismith who could also score a few goals. The same cannot be said this time, especially since Lafferty is currently injured and the only other options would be the likes of Healy. Losing Miller and having Jelavic and Lafferty on form is not that great a loss, however, losing Jelavic and having a consistently injured Lafferty, as well as David Healy would worsen the team.
WillMcQ.
I agree to a certain extent, he is guaranteed goals against the smaller sides and those games do win the league: Celtic did better in Old Firm games last season and still lost the league. However, Boyd will only work if Mccoist plays him in a 4-4-2. He is the worst lone striker in the world.
Jelavic (pen) is vastly, vastly overrated. I've said this constantly.
I honestly believe Rangers will not be seriously harmed if he leaves, in domestic terms. Much of the hoo-ha and Greek choir fawning over his potential departure is, for me, a ruse to increase his value.
That is all.
I agree Henrik, we will need to wait and see i guess.
matched on their day, rangers having players who are mentally strong
----------------------
I totally agree - The difference this year is the Rangers (IMO) have not handled two things 1. The loss of Naismith and 2. Being top of the league.
We played our best footy in a long time after being hitting second spot. I'm not sure this team are as mentally strong as the last three years.
Celtic have the pressure of being leaders now - early days but it looks as though their recent challenges (last season, etc) could be the difference this year...
Only 3 times has the Spl been won by the OF side that has taken least points from the derbys
DeBear, do you not think you were playing well when Mculloch was injured and Davis was actually in the middle of the park?
Henrik,
Davis hasn't been what I would expect of him for a long time.
He seems quite a quiet lad - not the normal type of player for a Captain (for me anyway).
A real cutting edge came off our game when we were miles ahead - at times it really looked to me like we couldn't handle it...
The difference for me seems to be Walter Smith.
After I got back from our game against Kilmarnock, I had recorded the Rangers game against St Mirren. The score was announced at the game anyway. But I watched the game, and when Rangers went down to ten men I still think usually Rangers are better than that. I thought usually Rangers would dig in, be strong as a unit and fight for each other: like they did in the League Cup Final against the same side when they were reduced to nine men.
Sometimes in footy it's better to chase than be chased.
Man U Vs Newcastle in Keegans day, etc.
Celtic could really focus on reselling thr point total in. Week after week it provides focus plus a real sense of achievement.
Rangers on the other hand were looking over thier shoulder week after week watching that gap erode.
It seems like now it's gone we don't have that particular worry now but a new kind - trying not to let Celtic get too far in front.
Mentality will mean more than players this year IMO.
It is your player who have just won 10 on the bounce when two months ago they nearly got NL his P45...
DeBear, do you not think you were playing well when Mculloch was injured and Davis was actually in the middle of the park?
henrik its too simple to blame mcculloch for everything, we all know what tims think of big lee, he has a job to do, its not very pretty but it needs to be done nevertheless. mcculloch is one of those players when its not going well he is awful and no one sees any good he does, but he is effective in the middle role of breaking up play, he isnt in there to be liked
It would be a massive blow for Rangers to lose, by a mile, their best player.
He has been badly off form this season and is still their stand out player.
When on form he is the best player in the country, when on form mind.
Miller is a poor goalscorer, last season was a purple patch in his career. That was how they could do without him.
Losing Jelavic would be a different case.
I wouldnt say that if they sold Jelavic we'd win the league, but if they replaced him with Novo and Boyd I would be delighted.
henrik with regard to the stmirren game, sometimes these things happen when you go down to 10 or even 9 men, it can work for you or its just not your day, we created enough chances in the 2nd half to win two games, but it wasnt to be, walter lost matches too
Not blaming Mculloch, to be honest. I just think Davis plays better in the middle of the park and he should not be pushed out to wider positions by Mcculloch at times.
Celtic haven't come near a run of consecutive wins like this, since last season's opening games.
And for me, we've still a few gears to move up.We don't look like losing but, in each game we have different players playing well and others not...with Izzy back, I think we'll see a big change.
It's no coincidence that, after the wee man came on yesterday, we were creating chance after chance
Exactly Debear two of our three titles have been won by winning the chase, not leading it
watching jellavic against celtic i felt he can go anytime as far as im concerned, i was really looking forward to have a good look at him yesterday but it wasnt to be, i believe ally when he says he is injured. now if we got a great offer for him and a huge chunk was invested in the team i think it would benifit us in the quest for the title but if we get a mediocre bid and we scap around for crumbs then its all over, keeping him would be ok but he needs a partner and i dont know where the money will come from for that unless we can get a decent loan deal, boyd isnt the answer
henrik i agree davis was far more like himself yesterday in the middle with edu next to him , he had a good game too, the stand out yestrday was wallace, brilliant game he had
Rangers will need to sell another player aswell as Jelavic if Ally wants money reinvested...McGregor
