Evans is out, Rio and Giggs may make it.
I expect Anderson may well play.

Oh well Giggs in and Jones Cb then. Somehow forgot about Ando.

Smalling is back according to Sky Sports. I would also start Welbeck. I know Berba has been on fire but the pace of the front two, Nani and Valencia is invaluable in away games IMO.

Something like this:

Lindegaard

Rafael
Rio
Smalling
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Ando/Giggs
Nani

Rooney
Welbeck

I doubt it. We'll probably see another keeper change as well...

Isn't Jones a defender?

Yes, but him and Carrick have been very good in midfield together.

don't think ando will start.. he'll get another 30 minute cameo..

so so sure about rafael either... depends on who is fit... if both rio and smalling are back i think we'll see jones at right back... if only one them is fit, then jones at CB and rafael at RB.

i guess CM will be giggs and carrick..

True, but the point I was making is related to the OP's article; players playing out of position. If Anderson is fit, he should be playing in midfield, he's a midfielder, and defenders should play in defence if that's where they play best. If Jones plays better, and is consistently used more in midfield, maybe we, and the club, should stop referring to him as a defender.

All of this would however, completely derail Fergies selection merry-go-round... And he, of course, knows best.

How can you be 'so-so' about playing Rafael? He's our best RB by far. He was one of the only players that came out of the Blackburn game with an ounce of credibility to boot.

Giggs and Carrick is a huge no for me. This type of game is the kind of game Giggs will frustrate and frustrate. Berbatov also deserves to keep his place.

Lindegaard

Rafael
Rio
Smalling
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Anderson
Nani

Rooney
Berbatov

If this isn't working, swap Berba and Anderson for Welbeck and Jones. That aside, this team should be more than enough to beat Newcastle.
