NO........ NO!!!!!

Evra hasnt publicly apologised for abusing Suarez either.

I wonder if Evra will apologise for insulting Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on purpose?

Evra's seems to insult loads of people... then runs off crying and lying about it.

Horrible person.

Why are you lot always moaning about something or other?

It's slightly different as tripping someone up there is a definite physical act which has taken place...

This whole race comment thing is open to interpretation but I understand what you mean. Most people seem to be agreeing that the word itself is not offensive but the context in which it was used.

This begs the question - did Evra really get offended by it?

I sincerely doubt he did... I believe he is used to abusing and receiving abuse from players during matches - he admitted he started the abuse by referring to Suarez's sister didn't he?

Just because abuse happens a lot it doesn't make it right. If Evra was offended then Suarez should apologise... Just as I'm sure Evra will apologise for the abuse he dished out (and will no doubt receive an 8 match ban for).

Evra called Suarez sudaca. Very disrespectful word used by mainland Spaniards towards South Americans.

Why has this not been scrutinised? Because it doesn't resemble an English word.

A truly embarrassing article

Fred Bassett - has Evra admitted to saying that? It is just an example of the utter inconsistency of the whole affair!

Evra called Suarez sudaca.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

He admitted insulting Suarez, but Suarez did not hear it and did not complain. I'm not sure if the Sudaca word was used, or if that was media speculation.

Personally I think its amazing that Evra changed his allegation as to what Suarez said from n****r to "negro" and his allegation is still deemed credible.

I'm not sure how Suarez' evidence can be deemed inconsistent having read what you just said...

Exactly my point Fred, but other fans dont like to talk on this point.

Or any other point brought up at the defence of Suarez just because he was found guilty during what looks like a very very dodgy and complex case.

Suppose this guy in the street tripping people up knew it would wind the tripee up and then blame "cultural differences" as in his country it is a form of dance and merriment, as a defence?!
You think the tripee would be all like "oh I see. Well we're in England, not wherever it is you're from. But i'll let you off! You wanna trip me again? Or ten more times? As I know now being tripped by you is only in jest!"
Get real

Haha yes! What you've done, is taken the original analogy and just made it completely different and disregarded the fundamental premise of what was being said. You've then used the amended, completely altered analogy to support your flimsy point. Well you''ve beaten me with that one mate, I guess you'll be getting consultancy jobs from the FA next.

I feel sorry for the O.P., he must be really upset . sad!

I'm not! It's not ideal, but suarez has obviously not covered himself in glory, I just think the whole issue could have been handled better

posted on 5/1/12

Nobody has covered themselves in glory... and yes the whole issue could have been handled better. Maybe by a handshake after the match?

Suarez and Evra are not angels... neither of them come out with any credit from this! Neither does the FA!

There was no chance of a handshake after the match once Fergie realised he could make a mountain out of a molehill. Evra was not offended because he used the same words on you tube which is now being shown by SSN with lots of bleeps.

Handshake after the match was Blatter's suggestion... it was laughed at at the time but had it actually happened all this nonsense would be behind us!

No way was Evra offended - it's naive to suggest he was.

Mr Mortimer, I feel trapped between two very bad places from that comment - having to witness this shambolic process take place, or....agreeing with Sepp Blatter. There is nowhere to go on that one.

posted on 5/1/12

I think it's OK to agree with Blatter on this one... you can still think he's an idiot generally. The law of averages meant he'ds get one right sooner or later!

This is a pretty ignorant argument, tbh. Blacks may call themselves the N- word borne from a history where they reclaimed it from those that sought to denigrate them with it but it's never been okay for others to refer to them by that tag.

I was starting to doubt the laws of averages in his case

It doesn't mean Evra is allowed to act like a total <unpleasant insult> though.

mthierry - you have just referred to blacks! You have generalised for all black people! That is wrong surely?

Again it is context. If a rapper was on the streets "freestyling" then the N word may be considered OK... but if he was in a job interview it would be wholly inappropriate - wouldn't it?

The word is according to Sky offensive regardless of who says it - hence it being bleeped despite a black man saying it. According to you it should be OK for him to say it though?
This I think is the last remnant of genuine racism left in society... racism will be dead when you don't treat someone differently just because of their race... which is what you have suggested is OK as when black people say the word it isn't offensive.
