Midfield –

Cleverley has only played a handful of games for us, but his style of play like Welbeck helps us play a more fluid style of attacking play and as a team we play better because we are able to play a quick tempo passing game. I don’t know yet how great his range of passing is, but I do know he has a great footballing brain and knows what he’s going to do with the ball before he receives it, something Scholes was amazing at.

Anderson’s pass to Rooney last night (or welbeck I can’t remember) over the top was sublime, he does have a great range of passing but people don’t seem to notice it because he tries the extravagant pass all too often. When he sprays the ball across the pitch to a player in a standing position, more often than not it reaches his destination. Anderson’s problem is when he tries to pass the long through ball cross to a running player which often strays. If he can learn when to make the right passes then people will see how great his range of passing is. I’m glad to see him back in the side and I hope he can go on to prove the doubters wrong because I still believe in him.

Valencia at right back – People think SAF has lost trust in Rafael, I don’t think this is the case. I think we are just trying to manage him properly because we don’t want to risk losing him to another injury and he clearly isn’t 100% match fit. Starting him right now is more than likely guaranteeing us a substitution at some point in the match and I’m confident that as long as he stays fit then he will finish the season as our right back.

Rene Meulensteen – This guy deserves a lot of credit and I’m sure he is a true unsung hero behind the scenes. The first lot of youngsters who he coached at the team was the likes of Welbeck and Cleverley with the next wave of youngsters on the verge of breaking through. I don’t know what he done, but he has clearly instilled the type of fluid play that we see in Cleverley and Welbeck, not to mention the next batch of youngsters all coming through. Without saying what has already been said countless times, I expect the trinity of Morrison, Pogba and Tunnicliffe to have successful careers and quite possibly at united. You’d also have to think the rest of the academy winning team will go on to have decent careers, not necessarily at United but the majority in the premier league or championship at least. It’s not necessarily all down to Rene, but he has played a major role in the schooling of their footballing careers so far so credit where credit is due.

Agree with the majority of what you have said, however quick question, do you really want Valencia playing at RB? In my opinion he's our most consistant winger and he should be getting games there not RB.

No obviously we dont want valencia at RB but atm needs must. We all know how injury prone the twins can be so we have to be cautious with rafael. I think park could do a job at rb tho, allowing valencia to play further forward. Anyone else?

I would rather see him playing Right wing to be honest, but I can understand why he is playing RB at the moment. Like I said, when Fergie is sure Rafael is back to 100% match fitness then I fully expect to see both Valencia and Nani occupying the wings.

And to answer your question, no I do not really want to see Valencia playing RB, he's not a defender

Re: Anderson. He is pap, surely you see that. What other top club would Anderson play for?

He's been here 5 years this summer. What has he shown?

Look at Anderson and look at players in the world who play in his position at other teams, then compare the difference in quality.

Don't only talk about passing when he is 10 yard in our half. How good is his one touch passing around the opposition box?

No I don't see that he is pap, but you are allowed your opinions. I won't argue on it

Agree with SLM.
I have been saying for a long time that Anderson isn't good enough for us. The guy just doesn't have any attributes to be a good midfielder. I still don't know how we spent 17m on this guy?

In fairness Hernandez has had a lot of injuries this season - still managed to score the winners at Swansea and Everton and eqaulize at Anfield.

Some people may argue that Anderson looked good early on in this season. But that was 3-4months back now and the whole team looked unstoppable then. Even if we had put Bebe or Obertan there they would have looked class.
Anderson just doesn't cut it for me. His long range passing is a joke and rarely finds the target, short passing isn't good (see the ball to Torres and many more), can't tackle, doesn't last more than 60 minutes, doesn't get goals or assists for an attacking mf. I mean if I were an opposition mf Anderson is the player i would be least afraid of as i know he won't last 60 minutes and won't score or assist.

Ok, I don't wanna argue. But tell me please what you see in Anderson?

Re Hernandez, I do feel he is somewhat overrated by a lot of people. Deadly in the box, yes, but his first touch and general link up play is poor. Very poor. I know people try and excuse this with the fact that he scores a fair amount of goals, but when our backs are against the wall, he is totally ineffective due to his inability to hold the ball up and bring others into play. On the other hand, when we are in full flow he tends to slow things down due to his inability to drop off or work the channels like Rooney, Welbeck and Berba do.

I feel he should be used mainly as an impact sub in tight away games - these are the ones in which he is very useful (see games vs Everton, Swansea and Liverpool). But generally, I think Rooney, Welbeck and Berba should start ahead of him.

SLM - Anderson is the only one of our midfielders who can actually drive a ball from his own half to the oppositions box. Whether you see it or not is up to you, he has got a good range of passing, he just needs to know when to play particular passes. He's still only what, 22? 23? Just because we signed him a few seasons ago when he was 19 doesn't mean he should be a world beater by now.He will come good and has been unfortunate to have been hampered by injuries

He's 24. How long should we wait till he comes good may I ask?

What happens at the end of these driving runs? A shot? An assist?

posted on 5/1/12

Why should you need to "drive" the ball forward.
Do Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas, Wilshere, Alonso, Ozil, Silva even Carrick, drive the ball forward.

If you are a good passer all you need to do is pass along the ground accurately.

As Cruyff says. The ball moves faster than the player.

Cleverley can't dribble, but his accurate passing is better than a lung bursting run to the edge of the box.

I get that you don't like him. But I'm not after a debate about him
