Don't think we will see him play for Leeds as he has not had a chance, which I find very weird. I do wonder about Grayson sometimes, looks like we have lost a talented player.
Maybe he has some sort of agreement with arsenal I'd be off if I was him
He's a youth player, he'll probably go out on loan to gain experience.
Would have been good experience to be in the squad. But he is still v.young and has plenty of time to get there. Too young still IMO to start. I think as a cb its such a high risk position that its difficult. Can't help but think that if it wasn't for football manager we wouldn't be having this article! Still, more of the like.coming through the better!
It's not like he's just come through the ranks, he was signed in the summer as a top prospect.
If we're down to the nare bones then he should at least be in the squad, otherwise what's the point in signing him?
Sorry I forgot you see what he's like in training and know whether he's good enough to make his debut
I see what O'Dea is like on the pitch and he still plays every game.
If Gimpel isn't good enough, why was he signed?
Who really cares who is good in training anti! If they are good on the pitch that's all I care for! And O'Dea has been rubbish, Gimple untested. Give him a go.
Some people on here talk out their backsides.
We used to get all this with White and Lees.
In the latest Football Manager I own, Gimpel is still a wee primary schoolkid, so no, not based on that game.
GO
The difference was they had been out on loan. Lees made his Leeds debut with 95 games under his belt
He may not be up to playing standards. Why did he sign him then you ask? Because he is one for the future. He's 18 years old and has never played professional first team football in England.
If Grayson was to play him tomorrow and he gets slaughtered, absolutely smashed to pieces by Arsenal then Grayson himself would be slated for putting too much pressure on Gimpel and knocking his confidence.
If Grayson, whilst watching him train sees that he has the potential to be a good player, but is not good enough to play for the first team yet, then is he going to put his own neck on the line by playing him? Because his own neck is on the line as it is, but if he was to play a player who has NO experience what so ever, his neck would be even more on the line. Tom Lees played 95 games professionally before he made his debut for Leeds, consider that and how he turned out. Remember Aidan White's go in the first team under Macca, he had his confidence knocked and he probably could have been an even better player if those 2 seasons he spent on the fringes of the fringe on loan at a League Two club then he could have over quite a bit over 100 games to his name by now.

......
So what about the other games he could been played in?
The back 4 can not get much worse then it is now.
james milner player when he was 16
Look where he is now. If you are good young age means nothing
The thing about defenders is, u need 2 be robust. Monty hasnt fully developed yet, and does not have the physical ability to defend against grown men.
Technically he may be good, but in that position u need to be hard or at least robust.
It is a bit weird how many articles there has been wanting Gimpel to start by people who have never seen him play. I'm not saying he shouldn't play or that he should because I haven't got any idea whether he's any good or not. If he's not ready for the 1st team (which can only be judged by those within the club) then you can't just throw him in and let Arsenal rip his confidence to shreds. As was mentioned earlier in this thread White had one good game on his debut and then looked out of his depth in subsequent games. He went on loan and came back with a bit of experience and is a completely different player playing with confidence and letting his ability show.
Managers are there to put their necks on the line.
That's the problem with Grayson, he just wants to keep himself in a job.
He plays experienced pros and loses 4,5 and 6, and he threw an 18 year old goalkeeper into the Blackpool game.
To have signed Gimpel in the summer, something must have been seen in him. You don't sign a player because they're useless but might just turn out to be good someday.
And have you seriously said what you have about White?
I don't think winning 4-0 against a team from the league above, and getting plaudits from everyone could have knocked his confidence.
The only person who knocked his confidence was Grayson by bringing in garbage left-backs whilst ignoring him and telling everybody he wasn't a left-back.
We're not all going to have the same opinions, but some of the ridiculous nonsense you see on here is unbelieveable.
If Grayson was to play him tomorrow and he gets slaughtered, absolutely smashed to pieces by Arsenal then Grayson himself would be slated for putting too much pressure on Gimpel and knocking his confidence.

This.
Stop talking about other players. It doesn't matter who else was playing what at what age.
If he is not ready for the first team he is not ready. Arsenal have already confirmed that they intend to play a strong side. Why potentially have a player hit for six, he has never played a full first team game, playing him against Arsenal could potentially knock his confidence for six. Only cause he ain't ready for tomorrow, does not mean he will never be ready.
I've said it before, we as a club, are returning to the days of our youth academy, you only have to at the number of players who came through our youth system we have given games to this year to see that.
Gimple will get his chance, id he is good enough, but putting him against Arsenal would be wrong.
I also fully believe that had Grayson confirmed the Las is likely to start a couple of days ago the board would have been flooded with posts complaining about him not bee ready, playing him against a great Arsenal side etc...
Some people will complain no matter what, and those are the ones who do not deserve to he taken seriously

He's the same age as Zac Thompson and he played in a pressure game and will probably play against Arsenal.

Jesus.
Yes Milner was 16, and he's now playing for England, he was an extremely talented player but a rarity.
Just because Gimpel is not good enough now to play for the first team, does not mean he never will be. Grayson and the rest of the staff may believe he could be a key player for us, but he isn't ready yet. Grayson actually said that there is a very small chance that he could feature this season when he first signed. Now by the fact he hasn't gone out on loan I would say he isn't far off, we have a CB crisis and until we get another CB in, I believe Gimpel is 1 injury or suspension away from getting on the bench. But that is only because there are 3 or 4 defenders injured. I expect them all to be back expect Paddy at latest during the loan window after the transfer window and Monty could go out on loan then.

Playing every week for Everton?
Who's actually going to play at centre-back then?
And who will be cover?
At the moment we have the useless O'Dea, Alex Bruce who was frozen out all season and has a hamstring strain, Lees who has been injured and Bromby who has been ignored most of his Leeds career and may still be injured.
Then you have Paul Connolly who is the only right-back at the club and can also play centre-back, but he was dropped from the squad for Burnley and seemingly made a scapegoat for Barnsley.
If Gimpel is as good as he is made out to be, then he should be on the bench for cover and to give him confidence and experience.

Grayson Out,
The only people who have made Gimpel out to be any good are the posters on here!
The only public comments Grayson has made about him are 'Monty has trained with us for a while and we like what we've seen'
At no point have the club bigged him up to be anyway a world class comment.
Maybe fans are just getting excited by the fact that he's foreign, we beat premiership clubs to him and that he's got a unusual name.

I've not seen him play so I can't judge him and I'm not judging him.
But I do not trust Grayson's judgement on players and, as I said, it's not as though he's come through the ranks. He was signed as a 17/18 year old, and you don't sign players of that age unless they have something about them.
So either it was a pointless signing, or he should be making the squad for Arsenal.
