Indeed, I don't think any song ever actually caused physical harm. Every week in this country innocent people are stabbed, slashed, beaten, raped, robbed to feed someones drug habit.

And yet the governments focus is songs

Can you just imagine the lunacy that will ensue if independence comes?

Ps, realistically tho, can you imagine anyone being prosecuted for singing your national anthem in your own country?

it baffles me to be honest

the soldiers song is a national anthem, and is also deemed "offensive" - how exactly?

im all for the hate to be dealt with, and some songs which are vile or innappropriate should be banned but come on tae christ.

be interesting to see if the orange walk is at all addressed in this.

'Making the sign of the cross in an aggressive manner.......'

Only in Scotland!

btw when i mentioned the orange walk above can i just say i dont think it would be wise to ban it, as much as i dislike it.

with social network groups like facebook unofficial ones would be planned and there would be less order at those by far.

So what about aoh marches, they ok?

how the feck can they class GSTQ as offensive Surely this is verging on treason?

I agree there are idiots on both sides who's sole purpose in life is to sing songs to offend people of a different persusion, equally there are idiots on both sides who are desperate to be offended by everything, these are the idiots they should be targetting. Unfortunatley it's the well behaved majority who will suffer

i think anything along the lines of a march which could inspire trouble is ill advised in scotland, that said i wouldnt ban it for the same reason i have given above.

In honesty i beleive banning them would make people more inclined to go to anything unnofficial planned, because all of a sudden they would be outraged.

I think this is all nonsence. I dont care what rangers fans sing. They can sing what they want. We all know that behind closed doors (ie, fitbaw boozers) it will be sung in full voice.

And getting arrested for blessing yourself???? They gonna arrest players that do it aswell???

posted on 22/6/11

surely these laws on blessing yourself etc are just going to increase an ever widening gap in society. It's not like they would ever contemplate banning a muslim from wearing a burka or praying etc

posted on 22/6/11

Surely it would be a complete waste of time and money arresting someone for singing gstq or blessing themselves? Any half decent lawyer would get it thrown out of court.

This is Neil Lennon's fault. And John Reid's. And Celtic.

Roseanna Cunningham has been at this nonsense for years. A bigger bigot you could not wish to meet.

......

Unless you live in France!!

Sersiouly though the laws are ridiculous and everyone knows that. The legislation is poorly thought out and has been rushed through in time for the new season so that it looks like the government are doing something!

What gets me is you can potentially get arrested for blessing yourself ( how does one bless them self in an aggresive manner?) or signing Rule Britania or GSTQ ( eh...we live in Britain!!) but they won't tell us what other songs can get you arrested.

So potentially I could sing songs about DOB's and not have anything done but then bless myself and get 5 years!!!

This country has gone mad!

Yet again the scatter gun approach from Ishmael.

Who determines what an aggressive blessing looks like? Can you argue it court that you were not agressively blessing yourself and it was just a standard blessing?
