St. Ledger to stay! for now..

I think it is time for NP and SSL to both settle their differences and get on with the job in hand.

We need a decent centre-half and we already have one in St Ledger. The player needs games to hold down his place at the up-coming Euros.

So whilst Bamba is away, please see sense Nige and give St Ledger a proper run in the team.

I'd be quite happy for SSL to stay as I think he's a useful squad player. Trouble is I'm not sure that SSL himself would want to stay unless he can get regular first team football. Can he keep his place when Bamba comes back from Africa?

At the moment I'd have him behind Mills, Bamba and a fully fit Tunchev; which would make him 3rd or 4th choice. I'm yet to be convinced that he's any better than that so conversely I wouldn't be too bothered if we traded him in.

Incidentally to the OP:

Are you the same John Fallen who was "John Fallen"
and then "Used to be John Fallen"
and are now "John Fallen" again?

If this is true, I guess it means that Tunchev can't be relied on to be fit for midweek.

This is very good news. And like lcfc prawn, I hope he and Pearson will now draw a line under things, and focus on the football.

I too, am in agreement with lcfcprawn on this one. This is a professional sport so lets act like it.

Just one last thought in response to Joby.

I have kind of gone on about this one ad infinitum, but I don't believe Bamba is strong in the centre-half position and don't believe he really understands the role.

Tunch would clearly have come ahead of SSL and Bamba but may never be the same player again.

So by my reckoning, SSL should be playing every game alongside Mills.

Do people not think that this is only for one match? I read from this that he's still going (and still wants to go), but Leicester still require him for one more match that they believe Tunchev won't be fit for.

“So by my reckoning, SSL should be playing every game alongside Mills.”
-------------------------------------------

On that I guess we’ll have to disagree. I must admit I don’t go to away matches, but I have seen every home match so feel reasonably placed to assess the relative merits of each option.

SSL is ok, but nothing more than that. His lack of height and pace limits his potential and I don’t believe he’ll ever be much more than a solid Championship pro. Bamba and Mills have the potential to play in the Premier League and, pre injury, so did Tunchev. SSL is a useful squad player, which also happens to be the opinion of successive managers.

In my opinion I wouldn’t get too distracted by this as I feel that SSL will be on his way shortly. NP is simply trying to ensure that he’s not left with a major problem as, without SSL, we are one injury away from a centre back crisis. As soon as we have adequate cover that situation will probably change.

PS.... and Dunge .... I think you're right.

This looks like an indication that NP doesn't think that Tunchev is ready to play two games in a few days. We clearly need cover.

I think that this will only be for one game.

SSL needs to leave for his and the clubs sake. As Joby ha quite rightly pointed out, SSL is behind Mill, Bamba and a fit Tunch. The only reason he may stay for the FA Cup is because Pearson won't want to risk Tunch for 2 games in 3 days.

Moving forward however, SSL has made it clear he's unhappy not playing. When Bamba is back, we have Mills and Bamba as first choice with Tunch as a more than capable back up. If SSL wants games and is disruptive if he doesn't get them, sell him.

In my opinion, he's a decent Championship player, but nothing more. Plenty equal players who would be happy to wait for their opportunity.

If SSL is still here when we play the replay I still wouldn't play him. His mind won't be right and his heart probably won't be in it. Also I would rather have pelting at CB, good header of the ball and has pace, fair enough it's not a Long term solution but then the problem is short term. And it would be nIce for Moore to be given Another run out after his impressive debut.

*peltier

Trish - While I rate Peltier as a full back, I don't think he's anything more than an emergency centre back. I take your point that it's only one game, but if St. Ledger is in the right mindset then he's clearly a better option. Perhaps it's an opportunity for him to go out on a high.

Besides, Moore's unavailable: He's cup-tied.

Now isn't the time to be getting rid of one of our only 3 remaining centre-backs at this moment, with Bamba away for a few weeks. With Mills red-card prone and Tunch uncertain with regards injury, we need to have someone who can take their place. My fear is that if we let SSL go, we could end up with a situation where Bamba is away, Mills is suspended and Tunch injured - then what? Howard and Oakley in defence?!

Whatever happened between SSL and NP should be put aside for the sake of the team. If SSL still wants to leave come the end of the loan window, when hopefully we have another defender and our current lot all fit and available, then fine, but for now his responsibility has to be with Leicester - and NP's responsibility is also with Leicester.

I've heard rumours he'll be taken off the transfer list. If that's the case I'll back him 100% and hope he succeeds.

I'd love to be proved wrong and that he's much better than "ok".
