It's the size of our pitch that is the biggest problem. I think we have one of the narrowest pitches in the league, it's clearly why teams find it so easy to defend in numbers against us and why we find it so hard to break teams down.

What on earth was going through autocorrect's head here?
SuperbFrank
Yes, but getting the right ones in January will prove impossible.
-----------------------------------------------------------
I think that one "special" signing could tip the balance of our season.
A new LW would allow Mata to play centrally and that could be the spark we need and it might even get Torres scoring again.
Biggish no idea, we're a million miles off from open expansive football, we're not playing expansive at the moment, we're not even playing football at the moment, we're just open
Mr C.......
Weird thing is, despite our recent desperate form, I have a good vibe for the Sunderland game and think we win 4-0.
Please don´t ask me to justify it though, cause I can´t

.... but not too much .... the truth hurts
We will.
On deadline day, we'll be making noise, toss up between Hulk or Lucas Moura. Hulk's agent is given us all the signals that his client would be interested, and Brazil's media still have us as Lucas's most likely destination at this time.
Drogba has always been inconsistent but from March onwards he was unplayable. Tore Man United to shreds in the second half of the CL second leg despite us only having 10 men.
Yes Cole's form was starting to dip but he wasn't getting skinned by the likes of Dembele!
JT has still not been great but you could put that down to Luiz not exactly being a rock beside him.
Also, it's not that his players couldn't adapt, it's that he inherited a broken squad. No matter the system we will have players it doesn't suit. Torres/Ramires/Romeu/Sturridge all favour the high line whereas Terry/Ivanovic/Lampard/Drogba/Mikel favour it deeper. This broken squad has come from constantly changing managers, who then buy new players and change the system slightly.

Biggish Id take a 1-0 win if it meant we actually get to see a good free flowing performance from the team rather than a 4-0 scrappy win. truth be told though, even though we've won big games under avb this season, ive not seen a good performance from the team. yet to see one under avb

United Away?
TheRevolutionWillNotBeTelevised
Agree completely with that
But my point would be that shouldn't AVB have done more to rectify that in the summer?
I don´t think so JTH.
You only get to learn about the players by training and working with them everyday. I think he has gone about it the right way.
As mentioned before, we are in this position because of constant managerial change which has resulted to the total neglect of squad development and maintenance.
Now we need an overhaul and that can only be done properly in the summer.
I thought we played well when we beat Everton at home this season and our 2nd half agst Spurs was good.
MO
The problem is then if we don't get CL football. Something which will make the overhaul much more difficult because we won't get the players we want/need.
Valencia home was a return to the Mourinho style of play. We defended for large parts of that game. Yes it was a good performance defensively and we got the job done but its a far cry from what we were doing under Ancelotti in our double winning season.
United away was a free for all, we were gung ho in our attitude and so were UNited, just so happens that United had attackers who can find the back of the net.
what I meant was, have we started a game this season, on the front foot, applying pressure onto the opposition from the word go? it seems the only time our team makes some sort of effort is when we're a goal down and then we have to start scrapping to salvage something from the game. man city game being a perfect example.
we've missed our midfield controllers from the past imo, ballack, essien, lampard, mikel & deco , like them or not, they used to control pretty much most games during 09/10,
part of the problem is our inability to force the issue, ie not being able to break down the opposition and get a goal when we really need it, instead we end up conceding and eventually losing, not a sign of a good team, or a good manager.

Mr Chelsea they are bad teams but against Bolton we were fantastic and then carried that on against Genk with the 4-0 win
torres has not helped at all, has he?
Squad should have been changed after double win.
Complacency has let spurs overtake us & Arsenal & Liverpool gain ground, There is a real chance we wont make top 4 that plus home grown rule & finnancial fair play will make re building a nightmare.
Why did,nt we pay the money for Aguero ? Our negotiating is awful as is our scouting system.
Hilario
Bosingwa
Fereira
Malouda
Kalou
Anelka
all should have been gone by now.
Lamps & Drogba's ego's wont let them do a Scholes/Giggs type role cause they have been more powerful than our managers whereas Ferguson rules at man U.
We should be looking at players 20 - 25 & no older
Hamsik & Hazzard would be a great start !!
Missing out on Aguero for 38m and buying Torres instead for 50m is an achievement that is only be matched by the compliance officers at Lehman Brothers.
I'm not blaming the pitch for our bad form, just saying that we'll never truly play expansive football at the bridge.
As for AVB rectifying our broken team in the summer, I don't realistically think it is possible to fix our team in one window so he took the only option that was available and bought a few players to strengthen our team.
