I almost wrote off Babadook as the name was so rubbish

Heard a few good things now so may as well watch it

Depends what you think of horrors in general. It's pretty 'standard' in its setup, but goes in a pretty interesting direction, and is fairly creepy and threatening throughout. No major jumps or scares though.

I like horror

the name didn't sound at all scary was the problem

It just sounds like a nice old granny who gives you biscuits

that's what makes it so good IMO, it doesn't need cheap thrills to be creepy.

It's a great look at how depression can manifest itself.

Mission Impossible and Mission Impossible 3 are both very good.

the second one is awful, don't like any of John Wu's English language movies.

This just confirms our complete polar opposite taste in everything. I cannot see the appeal in that anorexic, crap acting, ant lookalike.

Hes a decent director. Dont know about very good. His best work are the Star Trek films. His colour reflective lights gimmick is getting old. But he does popcorn fair decently. Which goes back to my point about MI.

Abrams has a basic formula which works. Which is why he is being backed by Spielberg. He doesnt really take risks and seems to put out the same level of quality product each time. Highly polished, very formulaic way that appeases the masses. Basically, Spielberg without the pioneering.

Yeah I'd agree with all that but I think he stands out more then other popcorn directors through his choreography and camera use in action scenes, I think that's his best attribute, if you look at the bridge scene in MI3 it's a very impressive piece of directing, and while I like some big action movies I wouldn't be a huge fan. But I really enjoy Abrahams stuff, I wouldn't have been a fan of Star Trek on TV but did like his movies.

Are you a Star Wars fan? I'm intrigued to see what he will do with it.

Watched anything good recently? I just recapped the last season of game of thrones with the new one due out soon, you a fan of that?
