It wasn't my lowest point simply because it wasn't our full strength team, not that it is an excuse for conceding 8 goals. I'd probably agree with Arsene about the Champions league to have our hopes dashed in one fell swoop was really heartbreaking
Thing is, how can reaching a CL final be a low point? Ok you lost, but you finished 2nd in the CL, that means at the time you were better than anyone bar Barca, hardly something to be ashamed of.
Losing 8-2 is something to feel embarrassed about, as a fan of any team, you'd feel embarrassed. You wouldn't ever feel embarrassed about losing 2-1 in a CL final against Barca.
For Wenger to say the CL was a lower point than that 8-2 drubbing is rude on the fans of Arsenal I think
It was no way my lowest point. The CC Final defeat vs Birmingham, CL Final defeat vs Barca, FA Cup Final defeat vs Liverpool, UEFA Cup final defeat vs Gala, both defeats vs Leeds in 99 and 03 costing us league titles and the 3-2 and 5-1 defeats vs Spurs off the top of my head were far harder to take.
Yes but we can still achieve things despite getting beat 8-2, it affects your season no more than getting beat 1-0 would (although it does damage your pride). Where as getting all the way to the final of the champs league for the first and then building our hopes up only to concede two late goals was very hard to take
The CL Final was a tragedy. What baffles me is nearly 6 years later Almunia is still an Arsenal player.
Also the 6-1 at OT was far worse than the 8-2 because we were actually meant to be title rivals back then.
the 6-1 at OT was mine for sure for the reasons Bats points out.
I cried after the 2006 final; I laughed when the 7th and 8th goals went in at OT. Tbh, Old Trafford sucked, but was not as painful as Paris 2006. I was gutted after CC final last season as well, and very low after we were knocked out of CL by Liverpool in 2008
well its hard to argue against losing a final.

sir bubbly you must be joking, coming 2nd in the CL final is crushing, i doubt chelsea fans look at the 2008 season and think great we lost to man utd and still have no euro cup to show for our efforts.
i'd agree on arsene on this one, although as a gooner as a fan you feel huge low points, 8-2 was one of my angriest
We lost to Division 2 side Wrexham in the FA cup in 1991/92 season when we where Champions of England.....we where 1-0 up with 10 min to go......now that was a low point....
Losing 8-2 early on is bad but enough time to recover.....
if we lose CL spot on goal difference then it would be bad if only by 5 goals......
If we go on to qualify for CL and win a trophy it would be just a bad stat for us......
Also losing to Birmingham in the final last season was worse then that result....
Man U fans are all glory hunters anyway.....most never seen a bad season for Man U due to being only 5 when the last time Man U din't win a trophy.......so to me its not as bad....
Losing today would be bad as we need to win to keep up the pressure on Chelsea
Well Batmanu, I can relate to you regarding those games but they were great disapointments, not absolute humiliation as was that result at OT earlier in the season.
The 6-1 result at OT back in 2002 ( I think) was also bad one but an 8-2 beats that. On reflection, didn't Arsenal win the Prem that year?
Disapointment is not the same as Humiliation. well it isn't in my book any way
Although I'm not a Liverpool supporter and can't speak for them but I'm sure when in !989 Arsenal went up to Anfield and beat them 2-0 to win the old !st Div and also prevent them winning another double ; they were extremely disapointed but not I feel sure, humiliated. As I say, I'm not a Liverpool fan and prehaps they were, although I doubt it.
By the way Batmanu, you didn't mention that game up at Newcastle last term. You remember, 4-0 up at H/T only to end up drawing the game. Biggest comback since Premier League started, possibly ever. Yes,yes I know the circumstances, Barton getting Diaby sent off, two dodgy pens. But the records will show 4-4 and won't give out the extenuating circumstances

Well as a Chelsea fan I have to say losing a final is much worse than getting thrashed in one league match. I've never felt any lower than when we came so close to winning the CL in '08. You might have to wait years for such a good chance again
