Uniteds player of the season so far?

Yep. Capello has never liked him though for some reason. But if he dosent make England's Euro squad it'll be an absolute joke. He's easily been the best English CM this season.

Michael Carrick without a shadow of a doubt! I don't believe it's just a Capello scenario here, as he's only ever played just 22 appearances internationally since his debut in 2001.

As many, many fans have already said, including players in Spain, that we prefer players who run 24/7 with very little ability, than a continental type of midfielder.

It is no shock that Paul Scholes and Michael Carrick have had poor careers internationally, yet in Spain they are admired for their brilliance.

Bloodred - Yeah your right am struggling to think of another holding midfielder who has played better..

Darkphoenix - You've hit the nail on the head with your comment, my thoughts exactly..

Valencia for me too. He showed it last season coming back from serious injury and he is showing it this year as well.

Perfectly summed up by darkphoenix!

For me, Nani. Looks dangerous every game and we are often toothless without him. That said, Carrick, Valencia, Smalling and Welbeck have all been good on a fairly consistent basis.

To quote Scholes on Carrick: "Over the last six years at the club he's been terrific, one of the most underrated players the Premier League has had. Since he's come we've won the league in all-but one season - that says it all."

Valencia is a good shout for player of the moment but based on the whole season I'd agree it has to be Carrick. He has been consistently good pretty much since September.

P.S. There's nothing wrong with criticising his poor form when it happens (and there was a dip of about 18 months in Carrick's case) but what I don't get is some fans not recognising his basic quality, and accepting how good he has been this season.

Red Russin - You're right but some people on this board seem to brandish you a 'wum' if you criticise a player even if it is obvious that they are going through a poor spell.

It usually depends how you express something. I've never seen a comment like "x is a very good player on his day but he hasn't been reaching anything like his best of late" labelled a wind-up.

Carrick has to be right up there for us.. Valencia has had a good little run recently as well.

Think I would lean towards Carrick as Smalling hasn't played all that much and Valencia wasn't playing all that much at the start of the season... think Welbeck has missed a good few games for us as well...

I don't mind criticism but it is how you put it, for example if you say Jones has been good for us at the start of the season but has looked poor recently I would agree 100%.

If you instead write Jones is an awful player and I don't now why the hell we bought him... I may brand that a wum, or at least be a bit less polite in my response..

Valencia, Carrick or Evans. All criminally underrated
