It would be nice to think he could be, he comes across well in the interview and seems really settled in the area.

He will go at the 1st decent offer

I actually cant remember one instance where Derby have dug their heels in saying a player is not for sale like Swansea and Bode and Huddersfield and Rhodes

Bush, you come up with this nonsense in just about every one of your post of late - how do you know that we haven't already received offers for some of our players and knocked those offers back?

In the case of Bodde, Swansea had the worst of the deal as they had to pay his wages while he was out injured so digging in your heels isn't always the best policy.

If our players continue to develop we either have to achieve promotion or they will be off.The disparity in incomes between the Prem and the Championship due to Sky money means that any Premiership club will be able to tempt away our players. Just missing out on promotion would be the worst case. We would be hard pushed to keep hold of the likes of most of back four and the goalkeeper. I cannot see GSE turning down the opportunity of a fast buck.

Fielding isn't going anywhere for now. Goalkeepers are generally more conservative in terms of moving clubs than outfield players because unless they can be assured of getting the number 1 shirt they know their opportunities at a new club will be severely limited. Look at Keiren Westwood, recognised as one of the best 'keepers outside the premiership for years and currently bench warming at Sunderland.

If Fielding were to maintain this level of perfomance over the next few seasons then he'll head to the premiership.

Not convinced.

Would you consider the sale of Hulse to be 'A fast buck'? Or Commons?

Neither sale did us any harm whatsoever (ok, that statement is with the benefit of hindsight).

Every player has his price - and if the value of an offer exceeds the player's value to us, then he will be sold. Even Ronaldo got flogged by Man Utd - and if the right offer comes along, Barcelona will sell Messi.

The trick is, working out the value of a player (or a manager, for that matter) to the potential selling club.

Selling Hulse was good business. He hasn't exactly set the football world alight since he left. Commons we had no choice as he wanted too much money and there were a bunch of Jockos willing to pay it.

Southampton appear to have done OK from Arsenal overvaluing their teenagers.

Just my opinion, I dont like nor trust GSE

Agree with you Bush. None of us actually know for certain a great deal we just have to form opinions from gut feelings and the evidence that we do see and I've formed a similar one to you re GSE.

OOE, yes Hulse was sold for a fast buck that wasn't re-invested in the team.

Regarding Commons, after he left we slumped to a record low points total (46 game season) of 49 points, a total which has seen teams relegated from the championship. Even now he could turn us from mid table into top six challengers.

I'm sure there are plenty of others who agree with you that we are no worse off but why fans think we are better off without a player of Commons' quality than with him continues to be completely beyond my comprehension I'm afraid.

Why are we better off without Commons?

Because he is a show-pony who only tried his guts out when he was negotiating a new contract, that's why. The rest of the time, he was either absent from the field of play or absent ON the field of play.

OOE

Did well in his first 6 months at Celtic. Now out of the picture again. Will miraculously rediscover form when his contracts up for renewal.

Undoubtedly a great player on his day, but lazy and a mercenary.

Spot on Eddie.

i was actually more interested in the subtext of Nigel's statement:

"WE would like to see him here for the next 10 years". This implies a desire from Nigel to be around too, and build something solid and sustainable here. There will be those rushing off to hurl themselves beneath the latest product of a bombardier contract, but I for one couldn't be happier .....cue the slings and arrows, etc, etc
