To be honest if he doesn't accept it we should just let him rot in the reserves for a year.
We need to start playing hardball with our players and other clubs who still see us as a soft touch.
Castle if a true Gers player !!!! turns down £1mil per year for the next 5 years !!!!
I dont want him in the team, fek off tae turkey I say - just hold out for the highest bid then be gone - were better off without players like that
Anyone else pretty disappointed by Whittaker in all of this?
He's been a good servant for the club, and then his agent comes out with this pash?
"Either accept the Bursaspor bid or we'll be negotiating with clubs to leave on a free from January."
He can gtf if that is his attitude.
No player in the SPL should be getting 20k a week unless they are truly worth it!
Whittaker has been far to inconsisitent to even think he is, we have stood by him when injured and through his bad spells, dont get me wrong on his day has the technical ability to be brilliant but doesnt do it enough!
10to12k a most
I just read on Iphone STV app he turned down £200k per year (£4k a weekI cn understand that. Not 20k a week. Not sure I believe the story of £4k per week. We'd be better pulling out the stops to keep him as we will not be able to replce with equal quality for the money we get for him.
Whittaker could earn more playing in the Championship than he can at Rangers.
He'd earn even more playing in the EPL.
No player is going to turn down the chances of a huge wage rise to stay in the SPL.
Brooklyn for me I would rather not accept the money no matter what.
I don't many clubs will offer him anything in Jan if he's not playing and by the time they get him it will be one year later with no game time.
If we keep letting player go like this we are going to have Bursaspor and other Turkish clubs at our door every year unless we make a stand on this.
It's worth the sacrifice. Both him and Bursaspor would be seriously p11ssed off if we did it and rightly so
if 4k a week is true tosh, that is diabolical as I said he is worth 10 to 12k, 4 k is an absolute joke.
He was one of the better performers towards the end of last season(the real Whittaker). 10 to 12k is worth it if he gets more consistent or plays in a more a attack minded team like we did to the end of season!
Are you lot living in cloud-cuckoo land?
Do you really think Rangers can afford a £2m player to sit in the reserves just out of spite?
Get a grip on yourselves.
Harry where is the £2 million offer and that's my point. It is worth keeping him in the reserves. Forrest did it to you lot. We need to play hardball otherwise this is going to happen year after year.
Esctosh - check the evening times apparently its £20k a week he has turned down - he will be on far more than £4k a week anyway just now ??
transfer windae shuts end of Aug - we hold out for the largest offer then he can FO
£20k a week for Whittaker - kinda glad he has turned this down funds will be far better spent
Lenny. I agree. I would expect him to be on bout £15k week a senior player. And a pretty decent one at that. £200k a week is what I read on STV. Makes you wonder what the initial offer was ! I dont see the point in it as it will cost more to replce him and probbly higher wges for the incoming player. Just give the guy a decent offer £10k-15k week and keep one of our better, consistent performers.
Scooby..I'm off tae the the ET.....back in a mo...
Castle
No, you paid £2m for him is what I meant, ergo he's a £2m player (maybe worth more now that he's an internationalist with CL experience.)
No one in Scotland can afford to let players like Whittaker rot in the reserves. It would be cutting off your nose to spite your face.
As for Forrest, Wilson was injured and they had plenty of cover. It didn't do the wee rat Billy any good though, did it?
Harry, if he stayed he would be a first team player, but players shouldn't be able to force lowball offers to be accepted just by throwing back our attempts to keep him, back in our face.
I would rather he would just get tae, if it's true he turned down £20k a week...it's little wonder Bursaspor can afford these £50k a week wages when they keep lowballing transfer fees on good players.
If they want him, they can spend at least £1m, regardless of whether he's on the last year of his contract or not.
If he signed, we would get a fair fee for him. Instead, he's chasing his own ends.
Some might say fair play to the guy, but I for one, am disappointed by his agents comments released to the press.
It's a pretty shocking way to treat the club who gave you your chance at the highest level....
Your post is full of ifs and therein lies the problem. We simply don't know what the situation is.
I think we can let him rot in the reserves. For the simple reason the alternative is to let him leave anyway. Either way he wont play for us. As I said if he goes for peanuts this will happen again. better to take the short term pain for the long term gain and it seems the club have taken the view also thankfully.
Dont get us wrong going to a new country and the excitement of playing different players and teams and sunshine every day should be an exciting prospect to a scottish player, money really shouldnt come into it if you are getting offered 1m a year.
these guys use this money to start other buisnesses and have other streams of cash, even the most avarge of footballers thes days Old Firm Championship League one must finish there careers as millionaires!
Keep him for the last year of his contract.Sign 23 year old Lee Wallace on a pre contract in January. Win the league again, say thanks very much Steven off ye go son. Lee Wallace joins next year,Win the league again and so on etc...............
I have no problem with him leaving for a higher wage but only if we get a decent fee. I'd expect at least £1.5m.
We paid £2m for him, he is now a far far better player with a few caps to his name. If he wasn't in his last year he'd be worth £3-4m easy. I'd accept £1.5m though since it's his last year.
Anything lower and Bursaspor can GTF.
If it's true he wants more than £20k (which I wouldn't have offered anyway) he can most certainly rot in the reserves for a year.
We need to take a stand. We are financially sound now and shouldn't be ripped off like we were with Miller.
Even if we have to pay full wages for a season to make a point, the point has to be made. We will not be held to ransom.
Imo that's about 18,000k more a week than he is worth!
How come Rangers want 2mill for a Scottish full back, in the final year of his contract, but offer 300,000 for Lee Wallace??

Hopefully because we are not a selling club anymore!
I'm glad he rejected it. Thats a ridiculous salary for him. £12k a week would suffice.
He's incredibly average, lets not get carried away.
Lee Wallace wasn't signed for 2 million pounds he dosen't have champions league experience, scored in a uefa cup quater final and started a uefa cup final,he hasn't been in the scotland squad regularly
he also hasn't been the fullback for the scottish premier league champions for the past 3 seasons
i think Wallace is worth 700k to 1 million and that we will pay that if hearts are willing to sell to us
Whittaker shouldn't be getting 20k a week
if nobody pays the 2 million then keep him and let him go next year
