Just hope the match lives up to all the hype and it does not turn into a damp squib.
Will the fans behave? Yeah right! Both sets of fans will be abusing each other and the players. Evra will be jeered over the Suarez-gate saga but I hope he and Utd rise above the nonsense and change our recent poor results at Anfield. A win is well overdue!
I do like the, "we are not racist, we only hate mancs" chant.
That's an amusing one.

The important thing to keep in mind is that it isn't 'Liverpool supporters' who did that to your grandfather - it is mindless idiots who did it, and there are a certain number of those belonging to every football tribe.
The rest of us normal human beings should listen to people like the OP who recognise that we're all basically the same: passionate about our football but outside the rivalries no different to one another.
The significant divide isn't between United and Liverpool supporters but between the human beings supporting both clubs and the angry people with an infantile understanding of what it all means.
-----------------------------------
Dunc. What's the point in trying to bring that back into the discussion? It's people like you that just can't help themselves.
i wasnt trying to turn this into a suarez/evra debate, simply suggesting that if it was racial abuse from fans that evra received the whole episode would have been over and done with now.
john barnes received it in the past along with many other black players as it still goes on.
all i was suggesting is that if it does happen saturday, Evra will be more than likely prepared for it and not react in the way he did when the whole suarez/ evra deabte started.

A bit better than my comment yesterday about hoping for 3 points eh?

Football has changed so much since I watched as a teenager standing in the Scoreboard Paddock boozed up with my mates 'terrorising' the away fans below us in the Scoreboard End pens. In those days it did seem like it was more than 'just a game'.
As your very good article describes, most people grow up and family/work/life takes over and football becomes, well, 'just a game'.
But, unfortunately, not for everybody. So, yes, lets hope that "football (and United) is the winner" this weekend at Anfield.
duncan - why are you still going on about the Suarez/Evra thing. Leave it alone and 'enjoy' the rivalry.
Interesting article in the Mail. Yes, I know, it didn't seem right as I typed it, but definitely worth a read:

Those lines of police where the East Stand concourse is now and the United fans trying to get past them at the Scousers.
These days the cop's on horseback just smile at the kids as they feed their horses' mints and stuff
Happy days for the most part

good article. (for the Mail)
You cant understate the city rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester. Its a major factor. People never really question why the United crest has a boat on it. Maybe they should.
I've always been a tad terrible at history but what caused the two cities to become rivals and how long has it stretched back to?
Liverpool had the sea, we didnt.
So M/C built the Ship Canal and bribed the ship's Captains to sail up the Canal and unload in Salford docks instead of Liverpool.
The big ship sails through the alley-alley-o
etc. etc.
What a great article, it really shows the transitions of football fans from the 70's to modern times now. How the Liverpool Echo had congratulated Busby in winning the trophy he most cherished, fast forward to 2005 when the MEN praised Liverpool's CL triumph it resulted in complaints by Mancs. Really worth the read that article. Thanks for the explanation RBW.
Good article
However the act remains that outwith all the other stuff, the ref will be the biggest factor, that and with any luck no diving. If there's no diving and no stupid mistakes from the ref then it's game on.
I predict a 2-2 draw!
"yesterday it was suggested on twitter to applaud evra's every touch... just to confuse the press..."
Nobody would be more confused than Evra, he'd think he'd turned up at the wrong ground! But I'm sure he'll get enough abuse to keep him well focused
The only match that really matters, the match of the century, the only match that would have shaken Hamlet out of his doleful introspection is over-hyped yet again....aye, there's the rub.
What a good article.
Red Russian's comments make a lot of sense too "The significant divide isn't between United and Liverpool supporters but between the human beings supporting both clubs and the angry people with an infantile understanding of what it all means."
That so applies to all football fans, wish this message could be more widespread.

Indeed
Someone said earlier in the thread that he had suffered violence at the hands of Liverpool fans and his view of Liverpool football club is distorted by that
I would suggest that it was nothing to do with Liverpool football club. It was an individual(s) way of being able to act in a vilent manner to another human being simply using Liverpool football club as an excuse to be able to do it
We would be better served if we did not link acts of violence back to the football clubs and point the finger of blame sorely at the violent indivual(s) concerned.
I can't see that happening anytime soon though.
If you do something to one of our fans, we will get revenge with one of yours. I don't care which one.
It's all nonsense considering Mancs and Scousers are pretty much identical in out ways
Still, for 90 mins tomorrow, you're a bunch of ************ ** ****** **** ** ******* ******

Except Mancs don't have the similarities of the scouse accent. I can't understand my mate sometimes coz of his scouse accent.
