Murray should just accept he's not as talented as the likes of Nole, Rafa & Fed. I mean I accept that I won't get a 1st degree but will give it my all 2 at least get a 2:1. Having said that I still think he's capable of winning at least 1 slam in his career if he's solid mentally

Same story from Murray time and time again. He did have the chances to do it, but alas undone by the lack of mental strength. What was that 4th set all about? Complete capitulation .

Yeah, lets all laugh at a guy who's the 4th best player on the planet, a guy who has won numerous tournaments in tennis playing against arguably the best 3 ever. Been to 5 straight GS semi finals.

If you were the 4th best footballer in the world how good would you be?

You wish Man Utd had the 4th best footballer in the world playing for you.

I was singing your comment out loud and I think you've missed a "la" out at the end.

What makes me laugh with this is how lots of you anti Murray English fans are a bit thiick.

You expected a Scotsman who supports Scotland in football to cheer on England during the world cup.

Why should a fan of Scotland support our biggest football rivals in the WC? Would all the Utd fans cheer on Liverpool in the CL. I think we all know the answer to that one. If you say you would then you are another brainwashed upper middle class fool like the ignorant commentators that you English get for your games.

It's nothing to do with not liking the English. If you are Utd and your mate supports Liverpool does it mean you don't like them if you refuse to cheer on Liverpool? Oh, how you English are touchy.

I support all British athletes in any sport, but I wont cheer or want England to win any tournament, when represented singularly.

In the world cup England 1st then if Scotland qualify I will get behind them 2nd.
BUT I draw the line with the Welsh (They're a funny lot them Welsh).

Tbh I find myself routing for England inside occasionally. Especially if the 'foreign' team is diving all over the place. I couldn't do it for the final though.

The media coverage would be too much to bear. We still see footage of when you last won it 5 times a year and it's mentioned during every England game.

posted on 27/1/12

ahh mr castle, thats just the point, we ( England ) HAVE won it.

i know it does the Jocks heads in, but there you go.

incidentally, we dont see that much coverage of our famous victory , i think most,if not all of the footage, is shown "north of the border".

just something to cheer you guys up on a cold winters night.

"You expected a Scotsman who supports Scotland in football to cheer on England during the world cup."

No I don't, where have I said that?

But you can't expect me to cheer on McFlurry either, he's is Scottish.

I'm really not sure what the point of your post is?

We have the 5th, that's close enough

A very good player (the finest British player since the war) nearly beat a truly great player today. If Murray were ten years younger, he would have won at least three Slams - bear in mind who won these tournaments when Agassi and Sampras were on the way down and Federer was yet to dominate. Safin, Hewitt and Roddick have all won more than one and he is a better player than any of them. Thomas Johansson, anyone? Regardless of nationality, respect the man's talent. As an Englishman, I do not want to get into the whole Scottish independence debate as long as it's democratically decided and fair to all parties. Boring comment, I know, but I'm still at work at half 10. On a Friday.

OK, then. Deep-fried Mars bars, the Proclaimers, the Krankies and their swinging, Culloden. This more the level I should be aiming at? Yvonne Murray and her perennial bronze medal in the late 80s and early 90s? Alec Salmond is a self-regarding buffoon who's interest is more in himself than the greater good of the British/Scottish population. Of course he is, he's a politician. They're all like that.

Right, this drive from Slough to North London beckons. I shan't bother you again!

We invented just about every major invention going, but if you want to mention Deep fried mars bars go ahead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_inventions_and_discoveries

Without us there wouldn't have been an Empire, but you wouldn't know your history would you? Arrogant and ignorant, like most of the muppets of your ilk.

How about Morris dancing, Yorkshire puddings, the birdie song. David Cameron? The fact you like Rugby and Cricket speaks volumes.

Oh, and let's all laugh at Utd, let's all laugh at Utd, la, la,la, la...

Castle. Many thanks for your salient response. I apologise if the tone of my comments was too subtle, but this national stereotyping was precisely the thing I was commenting on. I made a balanced comment based around tennis and got no reply, so threw in a few flippant comments to keep with the way this post was going. I am assuming you have not read the earlier post and jumped on the most recent one to justify your anti-English stance. I am perfectly aware of the numerous things invented by the Scots and do not need to use Wikipedia to back up my opinions. I do not consider myself to be arrogant, which is clearly a matter of opinion, but I would lay a sizeable wager that my grasp of history is considerably better than yours. Rugby and cricket are fine sports, but not everyone likes the same things. I would however say that the supporters of these sports are more rounded than those who spout bile and hatred towards one another on the basis of slightly different interpretations of a book of fiction.

posted on 28/1/12

Moreover, I would respect Andy Murray less if he sold out to the establishment and said he cheered for England. No self-respecting Scottish sports fan would say that. Sporting rivalry is healthy, as long as it is taken as this rather than something more sinister, which it appears a few here are espousing.

Could not care less if the English like Murray or not but i do take pleasure in all the little englanders slagging him off and whining about him because he didnt want your overrated arrogant prima donnas to win in the world cup. Got news for you, everyone from every other country hates you, not just Andy Murray. As long as he keeps upsetting them that will do me, whether he wins or not.
