please, sacrilegious of you OP to suggest such things
Mafiaboy, we can all chip in and buy him a 1Gig thumbdrive.
Taken from BBC article today:
Ahead of the game, Wenger responded to the negative reaction from the Arsenal fans after his decision to replace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain with Andrey Arshavin in the second half of Sunday's 2-1 defeat by Manchester United.
"I can live with that," he said. "I will fight forever for the values I believe are right in football and one or two bad reactions will not change that."
----
What the hell kind of answer is this? Is there a greater context here that can help explain?
How does bringing on an already lazy player, that he's utterly failed to motivate, represent one of his values? And again, why is he using our club to fight his ideological battles in football?

come on now gunnerthru, everyone loves a good scapegoat. And we've got plenty to choose from at Arsenal.
don't worry he is now apparently against players going out on loan who are over 21. i think he sees himself as a future European politician.
arsene is still a genius if it's the board who are restricting his transfer and or wage budget and have been for since the building of the emirates.
Seemingly a response to the reaction to the Ox sub? The man's lost it.
--------------------------
Doesn't make sense. What has Ox's sub got do with principles?
Unless it was something on the lines of,
Did you consider putting in a defender to shore things up rather than bringing on an attacking sub?
I don't know. What has values to do with a substitution?
I find myself agreeing with all the articles
-------------------------------------------------------------
Personally I look at the facts and mkae my own mind up, not agree with some sensationalist drivel from someone who is trying to get attention.
The biggest fact is that there are conflicting stories about whether Wenger will not spend money because he does not believe in paying over the odds and others saying the board will not let him spend or break the wage structure. Until we really know what goes on behind the closed doors at the club we cannot truly answer the question.
What has values to do with a substitution?

Guess he's referring to phasing in a youngster gradually rather than responding to pressure to play more frequently.
Further proof that his ideology is stopping him from making rational decisions regarding the team.
So Arsene Wenger is an inept manager. I suppose the little success he's had proves that doesn't it?

Guess he's referring to phasing in a youngster gradually rather than responding to pressure to play more frequently.
-------------------------
I rather doubt that. After all Arsene has the habit of throwing in youngsters too early. Theo, Denilson, Cesc, Wilshere all introduced at a very young age.
I am sure its about responding defensively rather than his values of attacking football. The rest doesn't really make sense, which sort of explains the discussion on this forum a few days ago, on whether it is winning football to over prepare for the opposition rather than imposing your game on the opposition.
Well gunnersfiring, if that were the case, Arsene would see that as interfering and walk if he had any pride that is.
I always thought that by building a new super stadium seating 60,000 fans paying a Kings ransom for the privilege would enable us to compete with others ( and you know who they are) Not so it would appear if you're right gunnersfiring.
It's estimated, that if we don't qualify for The Champions League next term, it could cost us £30,000,000. Not to mention losing RVP and Trevor Walcott. I know, I know ,its Theo but we know him as Trevor in our house, but I digress.
Wenger has no idea about tactics and hasn't for many years now. He certainly doesn't do defense. And he could never (or rarely ) unlock a well organised defence such as Bolton , Sunderland or any team that parked the bus
Arsenal's defending is a joke, terrilbly coached , woeful.
I despair
Sadly yours Proudgooner
I am sure its about responding defensively rather than his values of attacking football.

relacing Ox with Arshavin wasn't a defensive substitution. Also he says that a couple of bad reactions won't change his values. One or two bad reactions constituting ~40,000 people screaming their dissapproval. What were they reacting badly too? The Ox being taken off of course. And Wenger has stated he took off the Ox because he was carrying an injury nobody knew about, but substituting an injured player is hardly a value. It has to be about the Ox being so young and it being his first epl start for us, and Wenger's insistence on gradually easing him in. Whatever wbout Fabregas, Wilshere etc, he certainly can't be accused of throwing the Ox in at the deep end.
AHB it was the wrong substitution but I think your over analysing and making a meal of one incident.
Still think Arsene a genius ????

He inherited a good team at Monaco, tweaked it and had some success.
Flew off to Japan as he was soooooooo in demand in Europe

Now he had HIS OWN PLAYERS for a while the trophy cupboard is bare.
He's still to win in Europe.
Genius? Nah. Lucky.
relacing Ox with Arshavin wasn't a defensive substitution.
-----------------------
Yes, that was the point. The questioner probably asked, why didn't Arsene put on a defensive player rather than Arshavin (who doesn't defend) and settle for 1-1.
To which he probably replied that he will defend his values of going for it rather than settling for a draw.
What were they reacting badly too?
-----------------------
And what if Arshavin had scored the winner? This is why I find it hilarious that some are spreading the notion that the crowd wouldn't have responded if Theo had been taken off. Ox was doing well and the crowd were reacting to Arshavin. Because Asrhavins body language and performances have been terrible. Just like our away fans were fed up with Ramsey against Spurs.
Arshavin made the mistake not Wenger. You can criticise Wenger for buying Arshavin but you cannot criticise Wenger for expecting Arshavin to do his job!
I am sorry to say many gooners over hype youngsters to make up for the lack of signings. People conveniently forget how badly Ox performed against Leeds in order to hammer Arsene. If Ox has 3 bad games in a row, I am sure some Spurs biased commentator will be suggesting that Oxlade lacks a football brain. And then when things aren't going well, many gooners will join the bandwagon. People on here were going after Jenkinson because he was introduced too early. Whereas some who use twitter for PR like Rasmey are now sacred cows.
AHB it was the wrong substitution but I think your over analysing and making a meal of one incident.
----
Not the substitution itself, but Wenger's rather strange response. What do his footballing values have to do with a substitution?
If it were 1-1 in a game and you were throwing on a substitute presumably to either win, or see out a draw, wouldn't you make a practical substitution based on what's going on on the field rather than on what your values are, whatever they may be?

The only player who wasn't an Arsene signing was Bergkamp who did not play full time. This team went unbeaten in winning the premier league. Never going to be repeated.
And by the way we were in a mess before Arsene joined Arsenal. There were key players who were in open revolt against Rioch that strengthened Dein's hand in getting rid of Rioch and replacing him with Wenger.
