This is a very stupid article, sorry. You can't expect a keeper who has been dropped for the past 5 games to miraculously become a confident keeper could you? The amount of games dropped has affected him and it was seen from his performances. He made some great saves like the Gerrard free kick, but he's young and not confident.
I'll say it again...
"Not really, he had a shaky start against City and WBA conceding poor goals to Dzeko and Long. He got a tough time against Stoke but came through that well in the end. He then had an impressive spell throughout October and November when the press stopped giving him a hard time and some of them even decided to praise him - through gritted teeth albeit. Ferguson - who is having a dreadful season managerially - then decided to play Lindegaard in three successive league games for no apparent reason and then came the debacle at Blackburn. His confidence has been totally shot since.
Like I say, give him time. But if you're willing to completely rule him out as a failure based on 5 months of football then fair enough. Let's hope he changes your mind."
I would loan him out to another premiership team for the whole of next season first. Then see how he does with less pressure. Then make a decision. We spent big money on him, we are not just going to give up on him after one season especially as he is very young for a GK
No..
He just needs to hit the gym quite a bit.
He is a very good shot stopper. and a great distributor of the ball. He's only21..Keepers get better with age. The best goalies are around 26+. They're not like outfield players, they mature and peak with age.

Thank god we have szczesny.
He'll be gone in summer.
Just hasn't worked out. Far better keepers than him (Foster and Howard) were let go for far less.
Like I said its not the isolated incident we are talking about. Its a mistake or more per game. He is a total liability.
Just because he cost 18m doesn't mean we should stick with him. That's a stupid rationale. Price shouldn't come into it. It's whether he costs us points and games which he does that matters.
Ask City fans, Liverpool fans and everyone else what they think of De Gea. Our fans just don't like admitting Fergie got it wrong. That's all it is.
Just seen the goals. Cant believe people are blaming De Gae for either. Bad defending in both counts.
Admit now that he's not up to it
From what I've seen goalkeepers don't suddenly reverse any failings they have and often like David James for instance it becomes a habit. Man Utd made a mistake on this lad and they need to find a worthy GK ala Schmeichel or VDV.
VDS but VDV might be a better option as well.
Our fans just don't like admitting Fergie got it wrong. That's all it is.
-----------------
Oh no, Fergie does get it wrong. He's been getting it badly wrong on multiple occassions this season. But not on this one. Like I've said, if people got off the ITV bandwagon and made up their own minds on the goals today, they would find that the first one wasn't solely his fault, and the second one was awful defending from Evra - nothing new there.

Caught in no man's land for the corner and didn't get off the floor. Terrible goalkeeping
Second goal was a BIG mistake from Evra not being goal side granted but again De Gea Beaten far too easily at the near post. I would have backed Joe Hart to save it. Evra was more to blame but you just didn't fancy him to stop it did you?
Terrible signing.

..............
Tell me about it, saved another club making that mistake.
Rather OTT article. He has bags of potential and these kind of issues are expected from a player playing outside of his home nation for the first time, is still learning the English language and adapting to life in the UK and in the premiership.
He has great distribution and agility but lacks judgement with crosses. His command of the box is questionable, always preferring to stay on the line.
We cannot expect De Gea to be at the same level as Van Der Sar or Schmeichal. I seem to recall the latter having a nightmare start to his Utd career.
Whilst we can scratch our heads in bemusement as to why De Gea errs, we would go a long way to cut him some slack. Given his main obstacles he needs our support and patience.
He'll come good.
As for now, Fergie needs to go with form players and for me Lindegaard is the most consistent keeper.
Trouble for De Gea is, he must realise he's not lived up to expectation and by now must be aware that everything he does will be heavily scrutinised by everyone.
It's a lot of pressure for him to operate under and this isn't something that's just going to go away without someone dealing with it.
I only watched the last 15 mins of today's match and he didn't look comfortable at all.
Whilst I realise you guys won't appreciate the comparison, it's very similar to Fabianski's travails a couple of seasons back. He'd play well for 89 minutes, but then undo all that good work but making a absolute ricket or two.
Like Fabianski, De Gea just needs to be taken out of the firing-line and given a run of games out on loan somewhere.
Even that might not prove to be the answer for him as far as becoming a Utd player goes, but after the money the club invested in him, it has to be worth a try.
Play Lindegaard for the rest of this season and see how the Spaniard comes back next season would be my suggestion.
Not sure how De Gea can improve to be honest.
He won't become domineering in the air. You either are or you aren't. Its that simple. He prefers to flap and punch.
All teams will do against him is play high balls into him and he'll crumble.
Stoke on Tuesday. Yikes !!!
We can't win titles with him in goal. 18m or 800k...price doesn't matter. Lindergaard cost only 2m and looks far better for me.

You would not know the meaning of potential if it struck you firmly in the face!
Of course a 20 year old can improve. If you can imagine a keeper can realistically play on until 40, De Gea has a lot of learning to do.
Lindegaard is in his late 20s, he has years of experience. His game as a result is more consistent.
I consider all the mistakes De Gea makes as being part of his learning process. Yes, it is frustrating but that is the price we pay for persevering with youth and ultimately with potential.
De Gea needs to learn from his errors, he needs to have a decent command of the language. He needs to improve his strength and bulk up a bit.
We need to judge his progress in a season or two.
Will David de Savic have any resale value if you admit he's shocking and decide to get rid?

We had the most illustrious standard bearer in Van Der Saar that any heir apparent was likely to be step down.
The problem sadly is not De Gea but fans spoilt by success and as a result expectations being unrealistically heightened!
Between now and the day Fergie retires consider it a period of transition. The result is going to be disappointment for those with unrealistic expectations.

Hahahahaha I knew it. I knew I'd catch you out.
De Gea has played far more Top level games that Lindergaard actually despite being younger. Including A Europa League final and an Under 21 Final.
So out of the two Lindergaard is actually the more inexperienced one. But is a much more reliable keeper. And a damn sight cheaper too.
De Gea is bobbins. He started badly and has only continued to make such basic errors. As he is 20 I expect him to make the odd mistake here and there but not every match. If we stick with him we are in trouble.

Exactly. Poor performaces from younger plays don't concern me too much at all. It will make them better for it. It's the older players that are playing consistently poorly that irks me. I can't wait til we have a fully fit sqaud and a few more youngsters come through. We are on the cusp having another very good side.
