Simon Dawkins is a forward who was released by the club a few seasons ago because he was tosh. He then got himself badly injured playing somewhere else and later approached the club to see if he could train with us to aid his return to full fitness. We said yes and he did well and was offered terms on a non-contract basis. This led to him impressing in a few games for Tim Sherwood's fringe team and he was then given a contract and immediately shipped off abroad somewhere on loan.
An unusual situation and although he's clearly got his career back on track, I can't believe he's improved so much that he's now worth a 1st team squad place.
Thanks Spurcat,
That does seem a bit weird that he has come on that much, but if so then fairplay to the lad. Glad to have more options in the squad.
Spurcat !!!
Where you bloody been !!??
Were you at WHL last night ??
RDBD
I have been extremely busy. Got myself a scouting job working for the club so have been all over the bloody country and off-line for yonks.
Yes I was there last night and bloody frozen I was too.
Hope you're well
I hadn't seen the list, so thanks for the link TTID
I also hadnt heard of Simon Dawkins so thanks to Spurcat for the info
- some fan i am huh?
Hello Spurcat, I was a lurker on the forum when you were here before, and since joining you've been awol. Its a pleasure to meet you, your input has always been great to hear. I only hope you will have the time to share with us little bits about the future spurs we have. I thank you for all the information you shared from before.
Oh and congratulations on the scouting job. Some of us have been talking about the scouting network we have as a club, but our knowledge is limited. Could you share some light on it? For overseas/european scouts do we have our own scouts or do we get knowledge from scouts that also give the information to other clubs as well? Thanks in advance as my dinner is nearly ready I may have to vanish in a second.
Who you been scouting Spurcat? Go on, tell us!
P.S. Can I have your job when you're bored of it?
oddiy,
By the sounds of what Spurcat put, it isn't a case us being poor fans. But him having great knowledge
Much better for your presence (we have been pining for you ) .
Mind you, the above about your job will only strengthen our idle gossip that you are Tim Sherwood.
Myself, I have seen the kids four times.
At Enfield Town, and 3 NextGen games (we managed to find a live feed for the Inter away game, I missed the PSV home game cos the club made a massive balls-up about the game being at the Os when twas the Lodge) .
From what I've seen, Miles and Luongo are real prospects to make the step up. Coulibaly and Pritchard still need a bit of work (worry about Pritchards' size) , but both looking good.
But a good feeling that perhaps a group of kids will kind of emerge together much like I recall Falco, Hazard et al in the early 80s.
Yesterday, got stuck behind a bunch of plastic scousers yapping on. Well until we scored.
I think Pritchard has been our best player over the course of the NextGen tournament. If he can overcome the obstacle of his size then I don't see why he won't make it. His technique and vision are very good.
Evening Spurcat
long time no hear mate!!!
i watched the game last night, thought we were lucky to win it, to be fair.
i thought Coulthist(excuse spelling) and Pritchard were our better players, while the keeper Miles had a good 2nd half.
Pritchard, looks very much in the Tom Caroll role and he and Luongo battled well against a very good side.
Coulibaly was disappointing TBH, looks like a semi against Barce could be on!!
"i watched the game last night, thought we were lucky to win it, to be fair"
I don't.
Time we stop saying incompetent opponents means we are "lucky" .
We had fewer chances. We took them.
The sort of chances they had, were like the ones we had at home against Inter. Which is why we won 7-1.
I thought we tried too many long balls, balls over the top, and difficult passes last night. Pritchard was the only one who has playing it on the floor. We started the second half well, knocking it about, but then it looked like we were too impatient to build slowly, and ended up conceding possession a lot of the time.
Evening lillywhite
Interesting to hear the views on last night. There's one or two players in that squad who have gone off the boil recently (Coulibaly included), but that's all part of their development, whereas there's also one or two, like Luongo and Pritchard, who have remained consistent throughout this tournament. I will say one thing in favour of Coulibaly last night, and that was he didn't let his head drop when it wasn't going for him and he did put a shift in.
Thanks for all your kind words fellas, it's good to be back on here
So you come back on here after about 4 months abscence and expect a warm welcome Spurcat????
unbelievable
welcome back fella, couldve done with you the last few days when there was widespread panic over our transfers
shut it mata you'd shiet your pants if you had a squad that good
Worst of the lot :
14 – Luka Modric

Our squad is much better
A huge hearty welcome back Spurcat mate, hope you're well, and many congrats on the new job - praying that it doesn't interfere with you offering your thoughts to us here whenever you can
The last three on the squad list are very interesting. Dawkins aside, I guess that means Bentley's back (how? Terms of the loan involving injury?) and Khumalo as a desperate last-ditch 'get-a-body-out-on-the-pitch-in-that-position-doesn't-matter-who-we've-not-got-anyone-else' type way (for when King, Gallas, Nelsen and An.Other are out).
Nice to see you back Spurcat......congratulations on the new job!
Not one to question your knowledge but Dawkins is converted to a midfielder now isnt he? Whilst he can play up front he is mainly used as a left winger or in the centre of midfield. (Possible Bale cover if he does not go back to the M.L.S?)
@Kimchibaka
Think we should give Khumalo a chance At Reading he had an injury and never got a look in after that. Offers versatility can play anywhere across the backline. I would rather him than Sandro,Livermore or Huddlestone being pressed into action (subject to injuries) in the centre of defence.
