Scotland: Flattering to Deceive

Hi Tully,

First of all its great to have a Scotland fan on here, and I hope we can tempt you to post more often - at least during the Six Nations?

Scotland must be even more frustrating than England - they have the potential - players like Murray & Gray would walk into most and possibly all Six Nations teams, Max Evans was on fire in parts and Denton looks liek the man of tomorrow. The flip side being some really basic mistakes and Parks was just shocking - you could easily name him as England's man of the match.

To be honest I can't see Robinson in charge come April, but there is potential if Scotland just stick to the really really simple stuff and don't complicate it

SARS - Hate to tell you off when you're trying to console us.

But we don't have the potential. Scottish Rugby is at an all time low.
Our national team is worse than ever.

Dan Parks getting a game for us says a lot, he's a horror show at the best of times.

The manager (who I was prepared to give a chance to) has taken us backwards. The first scottish team not to get through the group stages of a world cup and we are stick ons to get the wooden spoon. If France are in the mood at Murrayfield they will take 50 off us, and I see other hammerings away to Ireland and Wales. We may keep it closer against Italy if they give us enough penalties, but we'll still lose.

My predictions for our remaining six nations games are as follows:

Wales away - Defeat by 25+ points

France home - Defeat by 10-30 points

Ireland away - Defeat by 15 plus points

Italy away - Defeat, but a close defeat.

No Tries scored. Wooden spoon victory.

I was chatting to my father about this after the game. We both agree that their should be a second teir to the six nations. With countries such as Russia, Georgia, Spain and Portugal involved.
This would be a better level for Scotland. We can focus on the basics of the game. Like not dropping the ball, passing, kicking, tackling, scrummaging and line outs.
If we can get any one of these correct, we'll have improved.

We certainly need out of the 6 nations, as we are a complete embaressment to the country.

I have tickets for the France game, apart from that I won't even watch us on the tv.

Ouch!

I certainly agree their should be a second divsion to international rugby and promotion / relegation to get other nations involved - Georgia, Romania, Russia would be the obvious ones, I don't know much about Portugal or what other nations might be involved or interested.

On Andy Robinson, I'd tend to agree, I do think Scotland have some very good players - Euan Murray, Richie Gray, Denton (admittedly its very early in his career) and Max Evans. Surely the thing is to play to their strengths - at Murrayfield Scotland are always hard to beat by anyone (I can't remember Scotland being massacred (30+ pts) at home for a long time - in fact nothing at all comes to mind).

Maybe its a case of make it effective if not pretty, slow rumbling ball with good possesion and when the locks and back row have battered them enough let the likes of Evans loose?

Hang on in there!

SARS - We were hammered by Wales a few years back.

France also thumped us two years ago, both at Murrayfield.

I've got a ticket for the France game, but after that I'm finished with following Scotland.
It wouldnt mind losing, thats not what this is about. The current Scotland team would struggle to beat most high school teams in South Africa or New Zealand.
They can't even get the basics right, how are these players the best that our country has to offer?!
