MON anyone?

Yep.

But only if Hiddink / Mourinho are out of reach.

MON is always a good option, but for me he comes under the "Secondary Category" of managers i would like to see come in ...

As a side note, i dont think Harry will take the job

I would easily take Mourinho but I'm not sure he'd join us with the money available. He's more likely to go to City or United.

Hiddink wouldn't be bad.

just went to sunderland

manager of the most boring football team i have ever seen come to the lane - aston villa for a couple of seasons

loves the long ball

played heskey a lot

not a big enough name to attract world class players or keep our big boys happy

all of the aboves are reason why we should not try to get MON

RRP really? I can't see that he'd turn it down, and the clamour for him to take over is intense from practically everyone. He'll want to finish this season at Spurs then take over for England.

I count MON as one of the very top options. After Mourinho, he would be up there.

Spurtle - I think there are a few reasons why Harry might not get the job..

1. Health reasons - He may be forced to take it easy after his recent heart problems and you cant get more stress than being England's manager!

2. He has unfinished business in the PL/CL

3. He is part of the Tottenham Hotspur project and we are going places + hopefully a new stadium soon

4. Just dont think it suits him

5. Levy will do everything he can to keep Harry...Possible new contract?

Chronic - Fair enough if you think they play boring football, but Villa did score the 3rd highest amount of goals in the league the one season MON was there.

Under a better owner, with better players, at a bigger club, I think he'd do even greater and attract better players.

Hopefully Heskey would be too old for MON to want him anymore.

RRP - He's also at an age where he'll see it as his last chance, and I think he's the sort of person that sees it as the biggest honour in football.

Despite how we're doing at Spurs, and he's obviously become very attached to his position here, it'll just be too much to turn down.

Your number 5 I think will depend on whether Levy can find a class manager to replace him.

Spurtle - Its not as if Harry only has 2 years left in him

How long do England managers stay in charge usually? A few years? Say Harry stays with us for the next 2 years as he is contracted too, in that time there could be a new England manager in, perform badly at the Euro's and then get the sack...There will still be time for Harry to take the England job IF he wants it sometime in the near future

RRP - Yes but he knows the country is almost unanimous in wanting him to lead England. Another 5 years and that may not be the case, there may be various other good candidates or he may not be as successful as he is right now. Plus he'll be even older, so if his health is a problem now, wouldn't it be more a problem in a few years time?

On that note about health by the way, in taking the England job it can work both ways - there may be more increased pressure but there'll be less work for him to do.

nice on spurtle, an English manager any day over an import. unless he is Maradona or Ardeles

posted on 9/2/12

Spurtle - I see what you mean, Harrys stock cant rise any higher than now can it..unless we go on to win the PL

We both know if Harry gets the England job he will work his backside off unlike Capello and he will want to be involved day in day out with all the goings on, its not in his nature to take things easy

Gut feeling...Harry wont take it/get the job

Know - Madge or Ardiles? What?

RRP - No I am almost certain he will take it. You have to remember some of us still do like England and international football [wink]

Would it make you interested in it again at all if he did take it?

Oh you got me with that comment

I dont think much could make me interested in International Football, by the way its not just England, but International Football as a whole!

BUT, if Harry got the job i would certainly watch the games and hope he does well...while looking on and wondering what he could have achieved had he stayed with us

Whilst I quite like MON and think he's a decent manager, I am not convinced he is capable of being a great manager. I don't take too much heed on how he is currently doing at Sunderland, as I believe he is still in his honeymoon period there and the reality is that long term, he's going to achive very little with their current bunch of players.

Having said that, I think I would still have MON over the likes of Brendan Rodgers and David Moyes and one or two of the others that have been mentioned.

As for Harry taking the England job, well I am convincced he would walk to Wembley to take it. Okay, his decision might have been made harder by recent events and our current success, but I still reckon he'd grab the job. After all said and done, you 'only' have to get England to the semi-final stage of our major tournament, to be hailed a success and Harry would feel confident he could achieve that.

As for the "love affair" between us fans and him, and also his "love" for the club, well when exact;y did all that start ? Because up until this season, you could count on one hand the number of times his name was chanted at WHL, and he has always given an impression he was using the club as a stepping stone for the national job, something which has always been a big bone of contention with 606ers and others. Another reason why I remain fairly sure he would accept the England job.

If he picks a lot of the Spurs players you could fool yourself into thinking England is Spurs in disguise

If Harry won us the title this season, I would feel better about him leaving than if he left and we finished top 3, simply because that would be the ultimate objective achieved, and we wouldn't be left wondering if he could have won it, when he has. You never know the news might be a boost to the players, knowing it'll be the last season with Harry and they want to give it their best shot.

Either way it's been an excellent 3 years with him, and probably longer than I thought he'd be at Spurs for.

Spurcat - MON is one of the best managers in the league. Like Harry, he's not the best tactician but he has that knack of getting the best out of players. I'd rate Harry higher though when it comes to astuteness in the transfer window.

I think it's more a love from Harry and the fans for the team and the way we're playing, but we (Harry and the fans) still acknowledge and appreciate one another, we just may not show it as much.

spurcat is right. harry isnt a spurs fan. you have to remember that. he will have some affection for the club as we have allowed him to become a big managerial name but we the fans have had some run ins with him on more than one occasion. he even had a go at a section of our support last season.

Chronic, that's one of the things I was remembering when I questioned this "love affair" which seems to exist. The reality has been that he is not a Spurs fan, although in fairness, he doesn't need to be and has never claimed to be, and he has frequently undermined the fans - comments like "what are they moaning about, this is as good as it gets" spring to mind.

I hope this doesn't sound as if I'm anti-Harry, because I am almost certainly his biggest fan, but I just don't buy into this he wouldn't take the England job talk, because I am sure he definitely would.

I don't know whether MON would leave Sunderland for us- he always strikes me as being his own man and not being swayed by what everyone else would view as a step up.

He was a Sunderland fan as a boy and imo will want to try and "complete" his job there.

For whats its worth I think Harry will go, realistically I doubt the FA will be in a position to make any announcement on a successor until early March (after the shortlisting and interviews) - if its Harry (likely) the key for us is whether its an immediate appointment which would be a disaster or a delayed appointment for May 14, (the final squad doesn't have to be announced until May 29) and he would get two friendlies under his belt against Norway and Belgium before the France game on 11 June.

Clearly the second option is better for us in the short term and you have to think that Levy/Mills etc will be pushing for this..

If it is this scenario we would need to keep the focus on Spurs and the remaining 10 odd weeks of the season as much as possible, although English opposition players better watch their step

I dont want MON. Has to be a big European name for me. To attract the calibre of player that would push us on that little bir more, and that will keep Bale Modric etc happy.

And yes Spurcat, when offered the job, there is 0 doubt in my mind that Harry will take it without hesitation.

A big European name for me too Chronic. The thing is that Harry's achievenments with us have raised the benchmarkand some of the names mentioned like Rodgers, Pardew, Hughton, Moyes etc, fall some way short of that.

Rodgers, Pardew, Hughton, Moyes

-----

1. Rodgers - i respect what he has done with Swansea, and he can finish the job there and I would happily send Caulker back there next season to work with him. He hasnt worked with big name players

2. Pardew - no, not for me.

3. Hughton - love the guy, hes doing well, maybe one day, but not yet.

4. Moyes - no, perfect fit for Everton and doing a great job there.

All of the above managers are too much of a risk. This decision is crucial as we are at that stage where I think we either push on, or we move backwards, we wont be standing still. Crucial appointment and has to be the right one.

For me Levy has to go all out for Mourinho.
