He was excellent, he had elements of a young Paul scholes, great vision, full of energy and always wants the ball! I think he also took pressure of Wellens and allowed him to be back to his best, good passing and winning free kicks for us and generally adding a bit of fight to the middle of the park.
Defence was solid again, would have been a clean sheet except for a very debatable penalty, I thought apart from that the ref ha a good game though. SSL is fast becoming the rock of the team!!
Dyer, well I feel his days are numbered by Marshall who looks to have a bit of class about him, he excites me! Gally, well two good goals but he still has a lot of work to do, if and I know it's a if, he hadn't scored he wouldn't really have done a lot and would have been slated again!! But well done to him today.
Front two again were superb, beckfords ball control was brilliant and his chasing down is amazing compared to what it was, at one point he chased back when gally lost the ball on edge of their box and ended up being the last man back for us whilst gally was still walking back!! Give him what Becks has been on!!
Great atmosphere, not seen it like that for a whole match for a long while, kept me warm all game!!

Trish, I totally agree. I'm still to be won over by Gallagher. If you take his goals away today you'd question what he actually did. But the fact remains he won us the game.

My personal opinion, right or wrong, is that Gallagher would not make the bench or team if I was choosing!! Fortunately for him (and us today) I'm not!!

I think thats abit unfair, yeah he has been bad over the past few weeks, but so have so many others, but today i thought he actually worked and chased down and scored us the goals. The free kick of which was sublime.

He is definately getting far more stick than he should, no mentions of dyer or even wellens who went through a patch of games being so poor! Which incidently coincided with our form run of form! He played all those games. Dont get me wrong I really like Wellens he is a very good player, but he has certainly got away with playing poorly when gally takes alot of abuse!

I don't think dyer or Wellens got away with it, Wellens recieved a lot of stick, but he has pulled his socks up and put in decent performances and today looked back to his best. Dyer, well he is what he is he always tries and the crowd appreciate that but as soon as Marshall gets his place in the team I feel dyer will be a impact player. Gallys set pieces were better today and the free kick was top notch but for a player who is mainly in the team for his set pieces there are too many times he doesnt produce. He did well today and maybe he will get better but I'm with Mersey in this one, he would not makes starting team

My starting line up at the moment would be the team that started today but with no dyer and marchall instead. If gally can work like he did today I dont know who else you would put in.

There is no doubt that Drinkwater is going to be a quality addition to our squad. He actually reminds me of a young Danny Murphy when he's on the pitch. He made a few dreadful passes (which Wellens or Gallagher would have been maligned for), but generally speaking had a very good game.

I'd like to say a few words about Wellens. He's been much criticised, but I think he had a great game today and it was his first consistent performance for 90 minutes that I've seen from him for a while. Whether it's because he's finally got someone near him who is not wasteful with the ball I'm not sure, but he did look back to his best.

What do you say about Gally. For me he's a manager's nightmare. He doesn't run and battle and tackle, but is still capable of moments of quality that no other player in the squad is capable of. Is he a luxury in the team or is he the matchwinner? I tend to convince myself it's the former, but with 9 goals and a few assists to his name already there is strong evidence for the latter. I really don't know.

My gut feeling is that the midfield has not always been good enough previously to allow the luxury of playing Gally, but today it was. You need to own the midfield area to allow the creative players to float around and do their stuff.

When drink water gave the ball away, I felt sometimes its because he reads the game so much quicker than the other players that he played a ball which they didn't read and it made it look like he gave the ball away.
Im struggling to see this argument that gally worked harder today than he normally does?? He still pulls out of challenges, cannot head a ball and doesn't offer pelts much protection. But as joby says, 9 goals and a few assists is hard to argue agaisnts!!
Again i agree with joby about Wellens, as I said earlier in the post, today he looked back to his best, passing attacking runs and breaking up play and winning free kicks for us. Also think this is down to DW taking the pressure of him bein the main playmaker in the team!
