You know in a very strange way, hiring Grant may have roots into this whole mess. During his reign, the team was self managing, Grant was a glorified supervisor. And that togetherness without leadership got them to a CL final ..... no wonder they think they can dictate themselves. It would also explain why they got on so well with Carlo too, one of the most heads off coaches in top class football.

I'm sure i'll get abused for saying it, but it strikes me that certain players in your team believe they're bigger than the club.

After a poor performance, it's pretty standard fayre that players get hauled in for extra training. Seems some of them are above this sort of treatment. AVB strikes me as a really good manager in the making. He's just inherited a squad of players who seem to run the club, not play for it.

Daily fail have it wrong again. AVB didn't cancel their day off, Abramovich did. As it is, considering their poor showing against Everton, they got off lightly being called in on their day off. If I was RA, i'd have fined them all for poor performance!!

That's what I think. Hilario, Turnbull, Bosingwa, Ferriera, Mikel, Kalou, Malouda and Drogba are all highly likely to leave or out of contract in summer.

We know that Avram was nothing more than a water boy, and that the team was run like a communist collective, this seems to have carried on, they need to learn, no I'll change that, they need firing.

We have to prepare ourselves for a period of meagre pickings until the seeds are sprouting, and then it will be slow growth, as opposed to a bag of quick-gro being poured over the top.

This will upset many fans who have only been with us for a few years, have seen us win nearly everything there is on offer, and have never experienced lows.

Those of you having a pop at Grant, Sandsend and HHHBF in particular, seem to forget that at the time our world's nr 1 manager left we were seventh in the league and looking like not getting through the CL group stages. We were going through a crisis not too different from whats happening now.
There was the same talk of fighting for fourth place and qualifying for the next year and somehow producing the results to needed to get into the knockout round. The vultures were clearly circling.
The identical situation of players away at ACON for national duty. Lampard and Terry injured. Essien, Drogba ,Kalou, Mikel all away. In fact 9 first team players out and our renowned spine disabled. The situation was far worse 9than presently) when Grant took over.
And yet.... We were a snip away from being champions of Europe and were unlucky to be pipped at the post by the Mancs. All in all not a bad achievement. He was Manager, and regardless of his so called "waterboy" status, Its irrelevant. As Manager he gets the credit, or the majority of it.
The question is can a team operate without a manager? Can they run themselves as a few fans here suggest including the OP have claimed?
Well now if they are managing themselves now, they are certainly not succeeding, the morale is clearly non existent. Whether under Grant it was Mourinho's team suddenly enjoying that success as you say,could they not win a game while Mourinho was around?
And.... why were they the team under Grant so motivated to change things around after the sacking of Mr wonderful. While now managing themselves as you claim they are going from bad to worse.
Incidentally you also forget that Grant brought in Anelka who , who started scoring vital goals for us, admittedly it took a while, and he ,against all expectations ,took over the role of Drogba and co while they were away.
I agree Grant didn't look the part, he was never going to win the hearts of the Chelsea fans, who could after JM? But to write him of as a "waterboy", or "not involved", is thoroughly disrespectful and quite unfair.

Jose is Chelsea, Guus to an extent was Chelsea, Avram Grant never was, he may be well liked in football corridors as I keep on hearing, but he never was Chelsea.

Our name has always evoked the sixties cool, with a touch of swagger thrown in for good measure, when Jose turned up and made his "Special one" speech, I for one was loving it, absolutely loving it, thats who I want managing my club now that we have the wherewithall backing us.

And one last thing;

If that tuat Kenyon had done what he was brought in to do, i.e keep the gigantic ego's that were Roman and Jose apart, he would still be our boss now imo

Not offended at all, just wishing to set a record straight. I agree with all you say above. What seems to me to be a little simple minded, is those who feel, Jose is the answer to our problems. If we were not in such a bad way during the latter part of his reign, he may still be here. Its not all the ego thing, he was clearly flopping at the end.

I think a personal battle had developed over who was top dog at the club Jose or Roman, and there was only ever going to be 1 winner of that little scrap.
Had Kenyon played the role of buffer, then the 2 would not have clashed, instead he decided that he would throw his hat into the ring as hmfic.

Had Jose remained he would have bought and nurtured his own side, and that would have been a better thing for all concerned, especially the fans
