I know it is a part of the game to go over a win your team a free kick, or a pen, but when i see a player hit the deck and roll over 10 or 15 times, exaggerating like that , it really pi$$es me off.
Referees - or the authorities that govern referees - have to take their share of the blame.
If they didn't keep giving soft free kicks when it's obvious the player has thrown himself to the ground, then surely the players would learn not to keep doing it.
The last two or three major international tournaments have been blighted by this problem, and it's only getting worse.

That ref would have been OK if he hadn't kept dishing out the cards, he got most of the decisions right.
I didn't see City's game tonight so I can't comment on that particular ref.
But few things in football annoy me more than seeing a big, powerful player falling theatrically to the floor after the slightest nudge, and the referee obligingly blowing his whistle for the free kick.

That 5 minute spell where Kompany, NDJ and Barry all got booked put us firmly on the back foot and barely any challenge to a free header was allowed. Infuriating isnt the word!

I would agree with you if I didnt just know that as soon as a player was really injured and the ref ignored it because of the REAL Time speed the game is played at that he would get panned by all and sundry.
The problem is not the ref its the players and the only way to stamp it out is to review every game and do retrospective punishment. Unfortunately no one wants that to happen because all clubs would then lose players and just were does the line stop?
The speed the game is played at we consider 65% pass rate completion in a midfield player to be average and 80% very good. Refs on the other hand are judged by 20 cameras per game and are not allowed a 99% success rate. They should apparently see everything.
The commentary didnt even reference it.
Many grey areas, it just infuriates me seeing a player roll over 10 times, and then look up at the ref to see if he got the decision.

I guess you are right LEE1PEN, i think we have to except it as part of the game, push the rules as far as you can.
Athletes of whatever sport have always pushed the rules. I suppose its the competative nature and its not all sportsmen, though it is all games. Sledging in cricket is hardly the gentlemannly thing to do and neither was bodyline bowling all those years ago. In rugby I remember Brian Moore comentating and saying the England line was straying offside but that was ok because it was behind the refs back. When challenged by the other commentator he said its the players duty, yes duty, to gain as much advantage as possible regardless or the rules and its up to the refs and linesmen to police it and make sure the rules are adhered too. Thats rather sad imo and that aplies equally to amatuer as well as pro sport, its not just the money.

Bell ...actually the user name is because of the person who actually earned most of the penalties and it wasnt Frannie (Wiki has it wrong) ...put your and my user name and the 3rd person earned most by cutting in. Goodgraham on the original 606 did a breakdown of who earned Frannie the most penalties and Frannie came 3rd. The first person earning them was wynn davies, followed by Mikie and only 3rd lee1pen.
If your looking for irony though Bell then look at my favorite player, genius that he was, was not adverse to doing the odd belly flop.
