You raise an interesting point G_B. Tbh, I think a lot of pool fans are thinking the same thing.

The answer to ur question depends mainly on what the Owners see as targets for Kenny's 1st year back in charge. Albeit we might not make it into the top 4. But if we take a worst case scenario of Carling Cup final participation(not win), FA cup Semi-final/final participation and finish 5th or above, that's still progress in my eyes. Not much progress but progress nonetheless.

Now consider this. If we were to win the Carling cup, reach the Semi's atleast in the FA cup and end up 5th with Downing, Carroll and other non-scoring players, we haven't done too bad at all!

So as I said, it depends on what Kenny has agreed as a target with NESV.

Defintely a lot longer than a year (unless he has you 5 points from the bottom of the league, like Roy did)

Kenny is definitely going in the right direction...he had a big clear out and brought in new players. It was always goin to be a transitional period....frustrating as it is! One positive is we are very strong defensively which is the cornerstone of all good sides.

I think the expectation of Liverpool fans are too high at times. The club was severely damaged by H&G and lost a very good manager due to them. After Benitez left the club seemed rudderless and the appointment of Hodgson was a clear example of that imo.

Now they have a very good squad that is capable of challenging, obviously the results, especially at home, belie that statement, but Liverpool are 3 or 4 goals, rather than the woodwork from 2nd spot!

Such is the nature of football I guess, but Liverpool are not far from reaching their aims for this season, and that is with Carroll, Downing and Henderson not performing and Suarez being absent for 2 months.

I think some people forget that the owners had to be persuaded of the merits of having Kenny back as manager AND they made very clear they expected a top 4 finish after spending the money in the summer.

Kenny has a lot of credits in the bank from us fans and rightly so - the player, the manager, the man has done so much for the club, some of which beyond the call of duty and this is why he is revered. For the owners I think it will boil down to results, I also don't think the recent Suarez debacle has shown Kenny in the greatest light for those of us not defending our club.

i think most Liverpool fans would agree that winning the league cup and semis for the FA cup is an improvement on last year.

I think a trophy will sell the owners on another year for Kenny.

If we win at Wembley then everyone from the players to supporters to the owners will get the lift needed to move forward.

G.B, concentrate on your studies. If Kenny goes so do a lot of fans.

He has done a fantastic job and we are moving in the right direction, it takes time to rebuild a team.

Great article GB, you have more or less summed it all up. Kenny is an inspiration to Liverpool players and fans.

Sadly he has made a horrendous error buying Downing and Hendo two players that don't have enough desire to win IMO. Carroll has something but still looks like a lad who misses the toon.

The Suarez affair has done awful damage to Kennys reputation in the sport and we might be just a few points from fourth but realistically we are not going to get there.

I'm in favour if keeping Kenny there based on the fact he has earnt the right to have a proper crack at the job but I'm not too hopeful that he's got it right thus far.

Henderson and Carroll are children on long contracts.

If you expected them to be instant saviours, then the fault is with you.

I'm not expecting instant success but I would like to see these new signings show the desire that Suarez does on the pitch. It's their attitude I worry about not their talent, and that especially goes for Downing.

Hopefully we win CC and the FA Cup is still a possibilty. Winning these finals and the exposure it gives us around the world will see Liverpool is going the right way so if we miss out on 4th, top players will see us that we are a winning team and might help persuade some top players to come without the lure of Champs league and hopefully next season we can build further but hey........we still only 4 points behind so no need to throw in the towel just yet!!!!!
