NY

Well Wheatley,

As you probably know, I live in Milwaukee Wisconsin in the USA, which is 6 hours behind UK time.

A 3 pm kick off is 9 am to me and I am usually at the TV watching the Premiership games from 6.00 am or sometimes a live Championship game.

When 9 am comes around I have three, live, Premiership games I can switch between as well as looking at the Rovers game on the BBC or ESPN websites. I am considering getting player for this year and Alex let me have his info and I listened to one game last season. After all the bad comments about player, I did find it to be far better that I had expected.

An evening game is more of a problem, as 7.45 pm is 1 .45 pm over here. I do get the chance to go on the web at work if I am in the office.
I also have 606 or it will be the new JA606 to be able to comment and keep in touch, which is why I am grateful for finally being able to get on here.

Obviously, the best is when the Rovers are on Fox Soccer plus, either live or delay, then everything gets put on hold, I even have thoughts of getting a remote control (with a mute button) for the wife, but she knows when to keep quiet so that's been OK so far.

I do enjoy all the comments on 606 during a game, it does give you the feeling of being at the game and chatting with other speccies. It's nice to know what Canadian thinks in Toronto and how Mickey PDX is in Portland Oregan, plus of course Alex in Herts, Fuzzy in Switzerland and all the other far flung Rovers fans. Modern science is fantastic, twenty years ago, if I had been in the States I would have had a heell of a job to get information, now it's as easy as switching on.

I am not that up on these things norton, the original Bally set me up and he had to take the newyankee names. He has now gone offline and I understand the names have gone with him. I don't want to do anything to mess the whole thing up again, which is why I am now Bally. I will see if he can do anything as he was the one to get me on, I used up all my e mail addresses trying to get on previously.

Sometimes I think we home based Rovers fans forget how lucky we are. Yourself and those exiles far and wide are great fans and do well to keep as up to date as those of us back home.

I do attempt to keep an interest going in American sports and would guess that it's easier for you to keep track of the Brewers, Bucks and Packers. That must be where you get some of these ideas ref Fan Appreciation days. They seem to know how to show some recognition.

I try to get to as many matches as I can, never miss a home game, including cups and always get to at least 10 away games, used to be all away games unless a ridiculous midweek trip I couldn't get time off for but money is a factor now so had to cut back and that kills me. If not there then I listen in in Rovers Player and have forums on too. Throw in texts and half time reports from people at the games and have them covered. Am like a bear with a sore head now, I HATE close season. No Rovers, no escape, no losing my voice. Other people complain about the latter tho!!

I'm lucky in that I go to all home games including cup and friendlies. Saturdays my day is planned around the match, whether it be a trip around Donny before the game or go early to watch the players and away team arrive (but it always includes a trip to the Toad brewery!) Night matches depend on work, sometimes its a rush from a 6pm finish. I usually do between 8-10 away games as well (mainly down to work)

If I can't make a match we have Rovers player but I hate listening to games, I usually have the results coming up on sky sports and also check sites and forums online. I'm much less stressed during close season but it doesn't matter how many times I tell myself not to check results until after the game if I'm not there I have to check, even if its on my phone when I'm shopping

I live a couple of miles from the ground and if I was a fitness fan I would walk to home games, but I'm not and I don't. I have been to most home games for the three seasons since I retired and this year, for the first time, I have bought a ST. I go to home matches with an old, in every sense, school friend, who has been an active Rovers fan since the early Sixties. Our respective long-suffering wives take us or pick us up by car. It's a hard life. I used to watch Sky Sport News during Saturday away games but the stress levels seemed much higher than watching live games, so now I find something else to do until Final Score.

Looks like we all agree that the close season is rubbish, albeit fairly stress free. Obviously wondering where the next offer for one of our finest and if it'll be accepted is a different kind of stress which is not welcome.

I live about a half hour from the ground and usually get there for about 2 (3pm k.o ) have a couple of beers, a good natter with my lad (both of us ST holders) and anyone nearby, then trek up to the top of the South Stand and get ready.

We used to go to as many away games as possible, but now due to family reasons, we can only make about 4/5 a year. Would love to be able to get to all, will do one day though.

I think you probably know, but last year I came home in the first week of December to see my first game at the Keepmoat. I was leaving Chicago on Thursday night, getting to Manchester Friday morning and going to the game on Saturday to go back to Manchester on Sunday to leave on Monday morning.

Would you believe it, I got to Chicago knowing that the game had been called off due to the snow, ( We had none in Wisconsin). I was telling some Man U supporters that I was going knowing the game was called off. They wanted to know why I didn't go home, my answer was" I'm a Yorkshireman, I've paid for my ticket and I am not wasting bloody good money". Not bad really 7,000 mile round trip for a game which did not happen and a spend of almost 1,000 pounds. Now that's supporting your team.

Matchday's are great! As you know, I'm in Winterthur, Switzerland which is 1 hour ahead of Donny. I'm rarely at matches, but if I am, I sit with my Dad in the Sourh Stand.

Matchdays normally start for me on the evening before the game, when I put together the match thread. Now that I have the templates set up, it's more a case of the research; watching recent performances of the opposition to get an idea of how they play.

On the subject of match-thread, last time I tried, the HTML on here was not working. I'm currently prepping a blog for match threads among other things. As ever, any one who wants to say something on content, please do!

Saturday is a bit of a rush to get shopping done (including the all-important beer) before Mrs. Duck and I settle down to listen to our respective matches.

The match is spent listening to commentary, keeping an eye on ESPN and twitter, and on the match thread of course; commenting, tweeting (occasionally) and subtly taking the wotsit out of the Missus!

End of the game and it's a quick write of the fastest match report on the net (plus the best match report written by someone who never saw a ball kicked). Perhaps then a bit of praise & grumble (depends how I feel). Sometimes it's even off to watch FC Winti.

Anyway, it's my way of getting some feeling of being at a match with people. It's not even close to being there and is also nowhere near watching the game on TV in the pub, but it beats sitting in front of the PC passively listening.

Think we did a similar post a few years back.
Still a good one though.

I watched my first Donny match about 30 years ago and once old enough to go on my own, I bought a season ticket. Then when old enough to drive went to every away match within 2 hours of my house!

Then 8 years ago I had one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, move to Malta (my wifes home country) for a very good job opportunity.

I have only got back to Donny on 3 occasions over the past 8 years but made sure I went to a home match each time. Even got to see Billy score last season, albeit from the pen spot against Bristol City!

So now all I can do is listen on rovers player with a 4 pack of beer, kick off times are not a problem as we are only an hour in front.

Use things like this site and search the net for any news. Which is virtually impossible in the close season. (We get very little said about us in the season, but naff all this time of year. Look at the BBC for example, they still got the bloody news story about Donny Dog posted!).

And watch the one or two matches that we MAY get shown on tv over the season.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't been to a Rovers match for a very long time. 10-0 against Darlington I think. I'm an ex- pat living in Wales and avidly wait for Fuzzy's pre match day reports then follow the games on the BBC sport page on my lap top then on Final score then look for Fuzzy's analysis and 606 comments post match. Though it always seemed last year every time I logged in during match time the opposition scored! So it was mainly eyes closed and fingers crossed and then sneak a look at the result about 4-55pm.

This is my first post since I left Donny, it wasn't 606 then but cant remember what it was, the grey cells are dying off! I used to stand near the home tunnel at belle vue in my S T days. Only went to my first match at the Keepmoat last season. Match tickets bought for christmas by my partner. She came too, her first game at 59 and she loved it. Been a few times since then but have yet to see them win! I usually watch Jeff Stelling on sky news all afternoon, waiting for the brief 20 second slot they feel we are worth. However early retirement is coming in september....what joy

matchday is? my first post,be gentle with me,I have been reading all your comments for the last couple of years on 606 now ja606 with great interest. My dad first took me a rovers youth game in the fifties, now a fan for life,I do manage to get back to Donny every year to see family I always plan the trip for the start of the football season,Last season (my Aussie wife who thinks am mad) wanted to take a look at Brugge in Belgium, problem,Rovers playing Cardiff away that weekend,so there we are taking in the sites of Brugge (you people that are married will know)she just look at me and said go on then,we jumped into the hire car made the night ferry got to the ground 15 minutes before kick off, first half ok only 1-0 down, 3 more goals to them second half, she just looked at me and said you are mad, long quite drive back to Brugge. When at home in Aus,The game starts about 11pm UK winter time and 10pm in summer time,In summertime I take the boat most weekends to an island off Western Australia (Rottnest)and moor the boat in Thomson Bay,I have Player hook into my sound system from a lap top so it only plays through my rear deck speakers, problem is all the boats around us can hear the commentary as well, and (I dont care), at the end of last season we were playing Leiester at home at the very least needed to get a point to avoid religation,I was ansering a call of nature on the back swim board and Brooker scored a cracker I jumped with joy missed my footing and into the water,my wife spent the next few hours trying to dry out my mobil phone and all my credit cards and every thing else that you keep in your pockets,My good lady just shook her head, you are mad she repeats,I dont care I love my Rovers.Typical match day for me in Aus.

Remover - i just read your typical Ausie match day experience to the lads at work and it really hit the spot.
It reminded me of a day a few years ago when i was on a caravan holiday in the Lake District and England were playing Argentina in the World Cup.
My wife and neice were on holiday with me but knowing how wound up i get for Rovers and England games they decided not to watch with me and that they would take the dog for a walk..
I had sited the caravan in an area with four others and one of the other caravaners was a bit boring and not the slightest bit interested in football (how can blokes be like that?) but was aware that i was going to watch the game.
It was a hot day so i had the van windows open and to be honest, i do shout a lot when my team is playing.
Well, you may remember the match in question, England won 1-0 with the Beckham pen.
Afterwards the boring bloke said he was glad that England had won 2-0.
When i told him it was only 1-0 he said he thought it was two because i had really shouted out very loudly on two occasions, but that was of course when we were awrded the pen and again a few minutes later when it went in.
I will think of you next season when we are freezing our gonads off and you are on the boat.

Good to have you along for the ride remover. Always good to have views from afar and to think of us Rovers fans across many different seas roaring on the red and white hoops.

Sa w aprogramme on Fox Soccer plus last night, I am sure you must have seen it over therein England, Peter Brackley with Football bloopers. There, straight after each other were TWO absolute howlers by our esteemed no 1 Neil Sullivan. Mind you it also showed Shay Given, Jusi Jaskilinon, Scott Carson, Bruce Grobbelaar, Paul Robinson and several other keepers.

posted on 29/6/11

Don't know if it was the same one but I've seen a blooper programme with Sully involved, and another showing the best goals of a certain year, and the top two goals were scored past him too!

Thank you all for the welcom,Bally/Alexmyhero I gave your condolences to my good lady, she said dont you get mixed up with that lot they are all mad,I think there may be some truth in that statement, Not much football to talk about at the moment very quite these off season times I am in withdrawl. Never did get my phone to work again so I upgraded to an apple iphone of course I had to buy two as my good lady would never let me get away without buying herself one.The Ashes, funny that no one wants to talk about the great victory or thrashing that the Aussies got but hay I had to go through years of ridicual for past performances that some of the touring teams put out its a bit like dont mention the Germans in Faulty towers.I will book our tickets for our holiday on saterday,20 hr flight there and back,my good lady said good I am looking forward to seeing Morrocco I said no Brighton for rovers first game of the season, she said you are mad.
