True. But Liverpool vs United is the type of game that should be taking place in the later rounds. Not Liverpool vs garbage like Brighton.

In todays game, its better to finish 4th in the Prem than win a domestic cup.

Only Financially.

Yes, we made the draw ourselves and made it so.

Very disrespectful they are near the play offs in the championship hardly garbage.

This is the type of snobbery which is ruining our cup competitions and ruining football. Anyone who thinks 4th is more important than winning a trophy is an absolute idiot my opinion. It's great for the teams lower down to get far in the cup competitions, particularly financially.

not sure Pompey would agree with you on that one

Money is far more important than a de-valued cup. That's the way the game is

I wish they'd revamp the FA Cup so it means something again, but i doubt it'll happen in my lifetime.

Also we would be playing newcastle a team above us in the league but they got knocked out by this 'garbage'

Good try OP but these smaller teams only play as well as they are allowed to. Were you watching Spurs V Stevenage?

The FA Cup gives teams from lower divisions the opportunity to play the big boys and cause a shock and brings much needed revenue to these clubs. There have been plenty of shocks in the past and the competition is embedded in the culture and traditions of the English football.

What really devalue's the competition is when a team withdraws from it altogether, Only one team to my knowledge has done this and it was a 'disgrace'. A sadly forgotten 'disgrace'.

What really devalues the FA Cup

I thought Brighton sent Newcastle out in the previous round. They are a good side.

------------------------------

I did. Tottenham were not very good, so Stevenage managed to compete. If tottenham had plaed properly, they'd have won by 4 or 5.

Liverpool have done a professional job today against completely uncompetitive opposition. The FA Cup is de-valued when this type of tie is considered box-office. Much like Boxing gets pillored for allowing so many mis-matches to take place.

No disrespect, OP but who are you? couldn't be bothered to fill in your profile, very little indication of who you support, why bother with what amounts to a WUM account?

------------------

That's merely a sympton of the competitions fall. United withdrew because the dollar signs were flashing in South America. They put money first.

Money comes before Cups. So cups must be financially rewarding to be worthwhile.

Ahh yes now we see, a United apologist, why not update you profile?

We competed in the FIFA Club World Cup as well after we won the Champions League, but we didn't withdraw from the FA Cup. In fact, we won it instead. And had a decent season in the league.

Oh and United had to go to Brazil for theirs. We had to go to Japan, which is further.

Damn that team for withdrawing from the FA cup on the request of the FA. Awful.

As for the OP, I love the cup as it is. The randomness of the draw makes for part of the excitement. Seeding clubs would ruin it for me.

Could have said "No, we'll play in the FA Cup and go to Brazil as well".

Ah yes because United are renowned for agreeing with, and being pushed around, by The FA.

But your opposition today are appauling.

How ironic. The only thing appalling here is your spelling friend.

The government of the day wanted United to attend in order to boost chances of landing the 2006 world cup.
The 4th round of the FA cup would have been at the same time.

I don't particularly like the fact that United didn't defend the cup, and I would've been happy if they sent a reserve/youth squad out to do it, but the claims of devaluation would still have come along anyway.

Liverpool have knocked out Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea and Stoke from the cups so far this season.

You want a seeding system? Why? So the bigger clubs are 'protected'? Going by Chelseas cup draws in recent seasons seeding won't make any difference to them. That's part of what makes the cup great. You can play anyone at any time. If you ask me seedings should be removed from all competitions, world cup, CL, etc.

If you're good enough to win a competition you'll have to play the best eventually be it in the first round or the final

Brighton are doing better than United's slayers in the Carling Cup, Crystal Palace, hardly garbage. They also gave us a good game at the Amex Stadium earlier this season.

Rubbish article as to be expected from the op.
