At one point his son, Charlie was gonna take a seat on the board but that didnt happen...

JL is simply interested in his investments performing, its DL that is emotionally involved too...and as we have witnessed that appears to be a winning position.

greaves,

RDBD......................................I have to come down on your side in this (sorry Chicken) and I do believe that performance and results should dictate a good percentage of a players wages.

====================

My comment wasnt on what should happen, more of what does (currently) happen.

Chicken........................... I understand, just reflecting on the way it should be for all clubs.

For every decent foreign player that comes in, there are 3-4 who are purely here for the money.

There's more to consider than wages for any footballer - they also have careers to think about. Corluka for example could expect to earn less at a club like Leverkusen but won't play for his country if he doesn't get game time.

Similarly with young players like Hazard - yes in theory he could get a move to Barcelona or Real - but he would be behind some of the best players in the world. Being a squad player with limited game-time could well hurt his development and international chances.

While there are certainly more mercenary players around these days there are also high-profile examples of players that are ruined by taking moves simply for the money. Carroll is a perfect example, if he was still playing for Newcastle - guaranteed to start every game with a team made for him - he would be a definite for the Euros. Now he's an outside bet, and his value has gone down significantly.

RDBD's reasoning that "they can go there then" is sound - if they are going to chose a club for short-term gain, or if they're badly advised we wouldn't want them anyway

"You can "whatever" however much you like, thats today's football i'm afraid"

Today.
Tomorrow (UEFA FFP etc) it may not be.

Spurs are leading the way here.
We have some good players who, although not earning as much as they could elsewhere, are being paid well for the financial income the club currently has, and have reasonable parity with eachother.

For the likes of Hazard et al :

Ask not what Spurs can pay you. Ask what you can do for Spurs to WARRANT that pay.

Well aware about my business acumen, but this is a football forum it i want to discuss business in depth i will go elsewhere.
What a difference it would have made if the direction was a bit more on the football and less of the business

Keith Burkinshaws words ring very true.!!There used to be a football club over there!!

1. There did. And there will be again.

2. Notable as the most successful Spurs manager since St Nicholson, was talking about Irving Scholar et al (who nearly put the club under and ensured 15 yrs in the league wilderness) .

But when you go round posting comments i would expect from a 13yr old, like:

"He could buy you a new stadium and still be a billionaire.not much of a fan is he".

The normal response would naturally be to tell you why your post is complete rubbish. You either want to talk football finances or you dont. If you dont, then dont simply suggest he just "buy a new staium"?

Love your optimism.,unless there is another Scholar lurking somewhere.,or even an American conglomerate.

groovy.......................you are not living in the real world if you think the football is separate from the business. It should interest every fan and I echo Chicken's comments whole heartedly!

And i would like my missus to have the body of Kelly Brook & the brains of Stephen Fry...but i've got more chance of buying a football stadium out of the 2% bonus i've just been told i'm getting at the end of the financial year.

2%

groovy.............................the only way to get balance is to bring in wage caps like rugby. Unfortunately they will not & possibly could not do this.
