You have to say overall it is a weak squad and reflects poorly on the quality of English players. We only have 1 goalkeeper, I have no confidence in any English defenders (including Terry and Ferdinand if they were to be involved in the Euros), the fact Barry is still there demonstrates our midfield weakness, and Rooney never performs when it comes to the big games.

Why on earth are Cleverley, Walcott and Campbell in the squad? These never will be England quality players.

Think you a bit wide of the mark, okay we have not got much depth in keepers but as our number 1 we have one of the best in the world.

I agree we do lack in top quality CB's so there is an area of weakness, in CM we have experience, Parker has had a great season this season and last season, Gerard I feel is getting on a bit but he can still do a job and when Wilshere is injury free I am sure he will fill Gerards shoes. If you had actually watched Barry this season you will know he has had a very good season, he wins the ball back and knocks it on, nothing flash just effective.

I would have taken Chamberlain who looks like a very good prospect IMO, Adam Johnson has improved this year and I probably would have taken Lennon instead of Walcott.

Up front then Sturridge is a top player, has skills, can score and is strong, probably been the highlight of Chelsea's season along with Mata, Rooney is in great form at the moment so hopefully it will continue, Welbeck has been class in patches for United although he does need to become a bit more consistent I feel.

But not sure why you are being so negative, we have been crying out for freshening up the squad, he has done that and you still moan, he can only pick what talent England have, and I don't think its so bad, sure its not Spain, but its better than most.

Also I watched Cleverly's performance against Ajax and even though I was doubtful about what a top player he is, in that match I didn't see him give the ball away once, he is a good prospect and I am sure him and Wilshere will be the centre piece to future England teams.

Why take 3 right backs, and only have smalling and jones to play with cahill, who has barely set the world on fire this season.

For all the barry doubters, he has arguably been city's most consistant performer this year. Whilst he has no pace, his reading of the game and distribution is excellent

In terms of strikers, given that rooney can not pkay in the 1st two euro games, common sense would say play someone else in this game, to show what they can do

I agree with that, I am worried he may opt to put Micah at CB :-S He should have dropped Johnson and taken another CB.

But lets be fair, its his first shot at picking a senior England squad, and from what I can see his ideas are in the right place, just needs to fine tune it a bit, but that's the reason to have Friendlies in the first place.

Downing and Walcott shouldn't be in there. Carson and Green should not be in there. He doesn't need 3 right backs. He doesn't need Rooney, as he won't be playing first 2 games of Euro's. Lennon and/or Ox should be included. Apart from that it's ok.

Not Arrogant Just Better MUFC 19 We are buying a brand new perch this old one smells funny 19 (U9396)

Wouldn't play Walcott, he has been awful for Arsenal, would play Adam Johnson instead, its a toss up between Sturridge and Welbeck although would probably start off without Rooney in the starting XI since we have to play the first 2 group matches without him.

yeah Shaun your probably right about Walcott

If only Valencia was English

With walcott it very much depends what defence he is facing.

He needs space to run into - if it's a team thats going to sit back, you need someone trickier to open them up, but if it's a team that will push on, walcott can ruin people.

When we were facing barca, several of their players stated the player they were most worried about was walcott, not RvP or Cesc.

Victor™ (U2027)

Granted he has pace, but at international level then you need more than that, he plays on the wing, for a winger you need a bit of pace, but your main charachteristic should be your final ball, then the ability to create half a yard of space with skill to deliver a cross, then if you have pace as well then thats a bonus.

All Walcott has is pace and until he works on his final ball and his ability to beat a man he will never be a top winger. Beckham is the best winger England have had in recent years, he never had much pace, he didn't really have much skill, but his ability to hit pin point crosses in made him a formidable winger.

You could argue that Walcott is not being played in his best position at Arsenal as I think he has a good finish so as a striker he might do well, but until he is being played in that role for his club then England can't play him in that role. At the moment he is a RW and he IMO no where near the level to be in the starting XI for England

This selection has Pearce all over it.

3 Right backs

Campbell (played in what - 3 games?)

Walcott? Rather have N. Dyer or AOE.

No Lescott? just because he is 29 doesn;t mean he's part of the old guard.

I hope he doesn't try his old party trick of slapping Micah into a CB slot, because it sure looks like thats the plan.
