Calm down. All I saw was a pinch hitter who swung at every ball and when England eventually varied the pace he was gone. Need to see more of him yet.

Exciting yes, but a very long way to go.
Seems more like a youtube cricketer to me.
"I believe him and Hafeez can make a deadly opening partnership"
Calm down dear
Although, when I watched Ali Brown in a couple of ODI matches, I thought he'd become the greatest opener in the world.
I'm just saying it's exciting to see someone talented coming through the ranks at Pakistan. It was his debut and he wanted to make a name for himself and show everyone how he plays, I'm sure given time he will mature and be a important player for us in the future. No harm in being excited about a youngster.
It will be interesting to see him in action when Finn is not feeding him length deliveries in the slot. Having said that it was a good debut so who knows.
Should have been given a chance in odi's instead of giving to thousand times tried and tested Farhat and Malik.
I wouldn't get to excited about a player who's tactic is as close to 'close your eyes and swing like a golf club' as I've ever seen in international cricket

I agree David. I'd rather have awais like this, than someone like a farhat opening and doing naff all.........
I think the critcs on here are abit harsh - it was his first game, it was a T20, and he was facing finn - what did you expect him to do??!!! If he has a cool head and can apply himself, there is no reason why he cant establish himself in the odi team.......

Agreed, and Awais also has much more potential than that slamless Scottish tennis fella that represents us
lol Andy Murray is all we have so i kinda like him. Morgan however............
OP this fella looked totally awful today and when he got out the entire country of Pakistan were thankfull
After reading this article i was left gobsmacked when i saw it on thurs. This guy is a joke of a cricketer...baseball player some may say. To even suggest this is pakistans new star shows your pathetic knowledge of cricket...didnt he only face around 12 balls in his first innings? and you claim him to be a star...my god i think you should stick to your football forum fella...your cricket knowledge is simply, extremely poor.
knowitall: He is still young and can improve. We need aggressive batsmen in the shorter format (T20). Zia gives us that, yes he struggled today hence why I said he needs to learn to play various shots, he needs to hit the ball on the leg side and off side. I'm sure if he is given a proper chance he will develop in to a fine player. First match, he made useful quick runs to start our innings off, which is always useful but today didn't do as well hence why still needs to improve.
Azam looked good today, hope to see more of him. It will be good to see how he does with the ball.
P.S. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, no need to be that harsh mate, I can comment on here if I want, if you've got a problem with it then don't comment, simple.
David I agree with knowitall. This is guy is nothing more than a leg side slogger. It took England 5 mins to sus him out. He's the ungliest thing I have seen in a Pak shirt. I'd rather have Imran Nazir playing than him.
Kash: Yeah I know I got carried away a bit by this article when I saw the first game. However, his still 25, he needs to learn to hit it on the offside as well and I'm sure he will improve by using various shots, if he can then he will be a lethal player.
In the game of T20, we need big hitters, especially at the start of the innings where it's the power play so therefore, if Zia can get us off to a good start then the others will be under less pressure.
As I said I got carried away with him in this article BUT we still need to given him a proper chance at least in the T20 to see whether he changes his style a bit so he can play various shots, if he doesn't change then take him out.
David its all good. We all got a bit excited after seeing the likes of Farhat, Ali, Khan and Shafiq refuse to hit a shot in anger but he is not the answer and is a walking wicket.
Give the guy a chance. Not only he but entire top order failed to score well yesterday.Too early to write him off.
Kash, agree he looked woeful yesterday. But I'm sure they selected him based on more than that, give the fella a run of a few more games....
I expect Zia is suffering what a lot of players new to a step in class suffer. Some don't make it and clearly he has much to learn. Can he learn, only further chances will tell.
