Best left-back of the last 15 years...

Chrissy Powell is without a doubt the best left-back I've seen at Derby in my lifetime.

I liked Zavagno, and I like Higgenbotham - am pleased he is still playing in the Prem.

Laursen? Didn't he play full back?

Chris Powell takes it by a mile though.

No competition...

Chris Powell

Laursen was quality, but he was a right back.

Chris Powell hands down. A huge mistake for the Bald Eagle to sell him.

Going back further into the 70's David Nish by a country mile

Talking about Stuart Pearce kissing the Derby badge, there you go.......http://www.bbc.co.uk/derby/content/image_galleries/ted_benefit_match_2006_gallery.shtml how many Derby players do you see kissing the red dog badge? Hmmmmm

Best left back to play for Derby in order, what I know of
David Nish
Chris Powell
Steve Buckley
If we get one as good as those three, on a permanent might I add, I will be a very happy Ram. But if we get another one like Schnoor,(i think we got him from Hamburg?) then I will be a very sad Ram.

Mel Sage was number 2, right back...I think
Mickie Forsythe did a great job...
although mad as a march hair!
But boy he liked to take the player...either with or without the ball

Dorigo is the best left back I've seen by a mile. I liked Powell but not the best defensively, being beat 0 - 5 by Leicester when he was torn to pieces being the best example, all the goals came in from his position

Chris Powell.

I think we sold him because he wanted to return to London for family reasons and Schnoor never really replaced him. The gradual loss of players like Powell and then Carsley began our decline from a decent PL side to a relegation struggler.

Some posters here have mentioned a lad from Tranmere (Aaron Cresswell) as a possible left-back, young & upcoming as back-up/competition to Roberts. Sounds promising like Brayford.

think u'll find mel sage was a left back.

As Simon J says, Mel Sage ( now a cab driver ) wore the number 2 shirt and played mostly at right back. He may have occasionally covered at left back, but he was mainly at RB.
Mick Forsyth was a decent left back. Anyone remember the equaliser he scored against Liverpool at the BBG. Must be about 1988.
Few can touch Chris Powell, but I agree with Bushwacker, Tony Dorigo was a fantastic player, wish we could have had the service that Villa had out of him.
Steve Buckley was probably the first left back I saw regularly at Derby. He had one hell of a shot on him.

Higginbotham was woeful at left back. he was much more assured when he moved to centre half.

Seth Johnson was good at left wingback when we played 5-2-3 with Delap as the other wingback. Other than him, it would have to be Powell.
