The Decline of Chelsea

I can't see how Chelsea can go spend lavishly FFP rules will stop that, and their squad is rotten so decline is coming BIG TIME

I welcome the decline of Chelsea. I'd never want them to go out of business, but it's good to see them returning to where they were pre Roman era.

It's shows us that football can prevail over billions of pounds, that having lot's of cash may bring you short term success, but it doesn't mean the richest club will be around at the top forever.

The great clubs always remain around the top, the rich ones don't always.

Bye bye Chelsea!

Cheerios Chelsea you didn't deserve it anyway !!

Small club won lotto

FFP will have little to no effect on Chelsea. Read the comments by Platini. The likes of city and Chelsea can continue to spend. But Chelsea don't need signings, they need commitment. It's sad that they lack that!

How can't they continue to spend ?? It's not club revenue !!

It's money from the owners pocket !

FFP only applies if you are in Europe, which we won't be so it's an irrelevance

Wasn't he talking about the exemption of infrastructural spending? Net spending on transfers has to be positive, I thought?

You'll get Europa

Oh yes very true only if Europe BUT Chelsea if they spend big will get back into Europe and therefor be banned.

They won't be. According to Platini, so long as clubs reduce their losses over the 3 year period, they won't be punished. Given the losses Chelsea and City have just posted, they have a lot to play with!

The day Chelsea FC declined was the day they signed both Ballack and Shevchenko from under Jose Mourinho. Those two players disrupted the system they deployed with their wingers the previuos two title winning seasons.

The Summer of 2006 was the day Chelsea Football Club declined.

More chance Mourinho will go to Spurs than Chelsea.

The blues were never going to be a major force long term even with Abramovic once FFP came in. They are a medium sized club with hardly any worldwide fan base relative to the likes of United and Liverpool, and their UK support isn't even that big, so how can they possibly compete with FFP limiting their expenditure and an old team needing to be totally rebuilt. Not to mention an owner who sacks the manager almost every year.

@ Obers. Well considering the constant warnings about United's permanent decline, it's quite refreshing to discuss the real decline of a rival!!

How on earth are united fans being bitter? Bitterness implies jealousy and feeling wronged. That does not apply at all to our reaction to the mess Chelsea are in right now. The word you were looking for is "pity" I feel.

The problem at Chelsea is that there seems to be no long term plan / strategy. Don't seem to bring in young players and develop them, but simply try to buy the best out there, often at inflated prices. This is not simply hindsight, but £50 million for Torres was as ludicrous as £35 million for Carroll. Yes, Torres was a proven player, but he has been off the boil for a while now, with Anelka and Drogba still doing a good job, along with Sturridge, perhaps a young striker is what was required. Chelsea need to go under some major transition, but I just wonder how much patience Abramovich has for that.

Which is why I said I wouldn't expect it from United fans. It doesn't make sense why you are being so bitter

4 things that led to our decline 1. The sacking of wilkins led to 2. The purchase of Torres and this led to 3. The sacking of Carlo and then 4. The purchase of Avb. Torres continued poor performance led to friction from the benched players and this led to 5. The banning of Anelka and Alex.
