wonder if he was present when the , ahem, double contracts were signed.
Walter was right, and he like the rest of us were duped. That team did seriously require at least £10million to get into the Champions League. He like most Rangers supporters, thought that Whyte was actually going to invest some money and could cover the brunt of a tax liability.
Henrik - you have only gone and spoiled
Magnum's pash poor wum!!
Walter spent £7m during his final summer at the club while wailing to the press that the club was in serious financial trouble
Like leaving Michelle McManus in charge of a sweet shop!

What a little beauty she is.

in all fairness its not Walters spending that has done this but Murray dodgy dealing s
Minty: "We're in serious financial trouble Walter, what shall we do?"
Wally: "Spend seven million on Jelavic, Beattie and Weiss?"
Minty: "Brilliant Walter. I knew I could trust you."
And then they rode off together leaving the club in the hands of Craig Whyte and certain financial disaster
Yes, but Walter got them the Champions League money. So isn't his spending vindicated? He can only spend what the owner gives him anyway.
Henrik
When you're millions in debt and facing serious financial trouble you don't go out and spend four million quid on a player, regardless of CL money.
If you disagree with me tell me how using the current situation at Rangers.
I don't disagree with you, in that you can't spend money you don't have. But Walter Smith is not in charge of Rangers' finances, David Murray was.
If Walter is given money to spend on a depleted squad, he would be stupid not to take it.
David Murray told us in code
For every £5 Celtic spend we will spend a £10.00
For every contract Celtic give a player.
Rangers will give 2.
Henrik
Walter Smith was in the papers regularly bemoaning the state of the finances so he knew how dire it was. Yet he still spent £35m in a little over three years.
Come on!
Murray will say to him that there is money available and Walter will take it.
I will admit he moaned about the finances an awful lot for someone who spent quite a bit.
Smith's objective was to win as much as possible, if Murray was giving him the money to do so, he will obviously use it.
Walter earned AT LEAST that in Champs league money before you even THINK about player sales
Walter Smith had Rangers spend 77% of their income on wages alone after being pumped out by Kaunas...not including transfer fees.
He more than any other Rangers manager spent the most with little or no Euro success.
You don't spend £100m(net) to dominate Scottish football, it doesn't add up
£35m and what, £15m in wages?
Aye, sure he did DC76.
Smith had Murrays ear...if he knew that Rangers required £20m last Summer...then he knew that the baw was burst.
That's why he bolted
Smith had already stayed a season longer than he'd intended, and who can blame him for chuckin it efter the kerap yous mhob stirred up last season?
and who can blame him for chuckin it efter the kerap yous mhob stirred up last season?
++++++
Or maybe he knew the krapp that was to come out THIS season...seeing how he was involved in most of it
Nothing more than a cheque book manager, who did nothing to further football in this country.
The man's a relic and best kept in a museum
