Harry and Defoe

Its strange as Harry said pre season that defoe had bulked up a bit, got fitter than ever then does not play him

he has looked sharp this season when he has played

No point in bringing him on at 3..0 with ten min to go

Ade was crap for weeks but still gets picked, thats why i dont think he will make a good england manager, he will be like all the rest , picking favorites and not players on form

Adebayor I suspect has a clause saying he must start every game (if fit).

Saha has looked good so far, but I would like to see Defoe more. JD is our best finisher and I think would be good together with Adebayor.

TBH we have to start with Adebayor he is the 2nd highest assists in the league as well as a respetable amount of goals he has scored. He is just annoying as he is unplayable one week and then complete rubbish the next but on the whole his contribution has been positive.

Erm, no he hasn't. The reality is that Defoe is no longer consistently good enough to warrant a starting place every week. Furthermore, if you were to analyse his game closely, you will see he has lost some of his natural explosive pace due to his hamstring problems.

Saha should of claimed another goal against United, the same against Stevenage. He's been cheated out of 2 extra goals since joining us, if he had scored against United we'd all be raving about him.

Spurcat.. I cant agree with you here.

He has bulked up because of the half yard of pace that he has lost, and when he has played he has looked very dangerous in my opinion.

I probably agree in so much as he shouldnt be a definate starter.. but he should definately be utilized more.... i still think that after VDV, he is probably still the best finisher that we have at the club.

I agree with you, Defoe is definetely worth a start in home games, he always seems to get chucked in away matches.

Is goals are what we need right now.

yesterday why didnt we bring on defoe on 60 mins when 2-0 down?

everyone around me was wondering why we couldnt even see him warming up.

he came on on 78 mins, 3-0 down.. and first time he picked up the ball he scored...

Considering the amount of misses JD had last season I'm staggered to think anyone thinks he is one of the best finishers at the club. Remember the pikey home game?

He used to be perhaps, but nowadays he's not. In mitigation though that might be a symptom of not playing enough. He's snatching at chances perhaps when he plays in order to impress? And/or he's simply not sharp because he's not getting a decent run the likes of which Adebayor receives.

Finally, I do think it's a bit out of order for him that he lost his place to VDV effectively, and now when he's been out JD still can't get in the side!! I thought Saha was to replace Pav?! JD will be sold in the summer for sure- I do feel sorry for him as over the last 2 years he's not been given that much of a run.

so who other than VDV is a more clinical finisher?

please dont tell me Bale, and please dont mention Adebayor as you could replace pikeys with numerous teams and it would apply to Ade this season.

Saha is a good finisher i suppose.

I am still waiting for somebody to tell me who other than VDV is a better finisher than Defoe at the football club.

There isn`t one. Defoe has an excellent scoring record wherever he has been, and is vastly underrated. He ws actually one of the very few Englishmen to hit the back of the net in the last World Cup.

I think we will see Defoe starting on Wednesday, and with Saha ineligible for the Everton game, probably on Saturday as well. Assuming that is what happens, let's hope he does well, bangs a few goals in and earns himself a regular starting place

How far away is VDV from a return?

Spurcat what is your opinion on VDV? This season I have found him to be (apart from an early season flourish) largely ineffective, and he spends half his time on the sidelines and the other half not looking fit in games.

Cash in in summer?
